New charges allege Barry Bonds lied about steroids

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A federal grand jury brought a longer array of perjury charges against baseball home run king Barry Bonds on Tuesday after a judge tossed out earlier allegations of lies about past steroid use.

The latest indictment charges the U.S. career home run record holder with 14 counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice.

This is like the OJ trial. We all know he did it. I don't know why he just didn't come out and say yeah I did em in the beginning. Now if he does say it or they prove he did, he's gonna look like such a fool.

Dude just disappeared. Unless I missed it, he didn't announce he was retiring or anything. I would've thought an American League team might pick him up, but I guess he is too much of a spectacle.

Technically, I believe he is still a free agent hoping or looking to be picked up. Last year, he signed a 1 year deal for 15 mil to play w/the Giants. Then the Giants said they wouldn't resign him, so pretty much like let go.

At the end of last season, he filed for free agency and stated he wanted to come back for 2008. He is only 65 hits shy of 3000 hits. Maybe he'll try to pull a Roger Clemens and come back mid-season, but for a hitter, I'm sure that is much more difficult plus with his name in the news for steroids I don't think a team will chance it.

Found this on wikipedia...

Most talk is of Bonds signing just for the 2008 season as he needs just 65 hits to reach the 3,000 hit mark. There is little discussion of the 800th home run or other milestones as motivation for continuing beyond 2008. In addition to the hits, Bonds needs 20 more runs scored to move past Ty Cobb for second place, and 69 to pass Rickey Henderson to be the all-time runs champion; and 38 extra base hits to move past Hank Aaron as the all-time extra base hits champion. Bonds continues to talk of his quest for a World Series championship as motivation for returning in 2008.
