"You're a coward if you take steroids," said Penn. "People know how to beat these tests. They get doctors, they do things to hide. . . . That's why this will be a historic night. If I can beat these people, I'll show the kids you can train clean and win these fights."

Penn also said he suspects Sherk is not the sole drug user in the 250-fighter UFC stable.

"It's hard for me, a guy who's never been using performance-enhancing drugs, who wakes up in the morning in pain from working out, to find out someone else is using. . . . ," said Penn, who is also a former UFC welterweight champion. "I'm a purist, and I'm more a fighter than an athlete. To pervert what we do with growth hormone, EPO doping or steroids, it just gets to you.

"What happened in the Old West if you were caught cheating with a couple aces up your sleeve? You'd get shot."

The thing is he doesn't use and its just pre fight hype. Strength isn't part of his game since he's a BJJ man thats brought his other skills up. Sherk on the other hand is wrestling background where its all core strength.

Its just pre fight smack talk but yeah BJ is natural, Sherk probably isn't so what

I love Bj penn but man that crap annoyed me with all that talk about steroids/drugs...... Funny, how he thinks its fine to smoke weed (he is a known weed smoker) but its crazy to take steroids.

BJ Penn just sounds like someone who knows nothing of AAS. He is a great MMA fighter and a decent guy. Remember, most people pop off at the mouth with no experience or research. It's like people who are prejudice, just a simple lack of expereince and understanding. On a side note, Shrek is and was not on Penn's level when it comes to MMA...maybe in a couple more years with some jujuitsu that is actually world class and not just learning basic submissions in the gym. I know, a bit preachy, but true.

If Sherk had better submissions there is no way he would've won that fight. Sherk ate BJ's jabs all night and couldn't close the distance and his shots got stuffed. How many times did that fight go to the ground? 1 time and that was after BJ kneed the shit out of his head and put him on his ass and then punched his face in.

No one understands that Sherk probably didnt want that fight on the ground unless he'd already done damage to Penn while standing. Penn may be the best jits guy in the UFC.

Before the fight I thought Sherk's plan was going to be to take BJ down and try to lay on him for 5 rounds( Sherk's usual game plan). I think it would have been a better game plan than what he had( getting raped in the stand up). Anywhere that fight goes you could tell Sherk wasn't gonna win after the 1st round. I personally thought before the fight BJ would gas by the mid 3rd and Sherk would take control from there. That was just a sparring session for BJ though.

Totally agree....I think any game plan he had went out the wind.ow after the first few knots started to grow on his head...
