Male Nurses
Hey I was pondering this today in class today (hey its a class about using the library, so sue me) Any ways my major is nursing and i wanted to get your prespectives of how you feal about males in the nursing profession since it always has been a mainly women thing.

Nothing wrong with men in nursing, as far as I'm concerned.
I am a Surgical Technologist, basicly I assist during surgery. It's considered a nursing field.  But anyways, there is a huge nursing shortage in the US right now, and with states like California passing laws requiring hospitals to keep minimum RN per patient ratio; the need is growing rapidly. If you find that you prefer seeing something actually getting done in a day, instead of just checking on patients, giving meds, etc... look in to the Operating Room. There are tons of specialties even within the OR. There are also tons of travel opportunities in nursing. My gf and I do short term contracts around the country for hospitals with staffing needs. My agency provides a corporate apartment, travel reimbursments, and a decent wage on top of that... Oh and full med. benis too.. Hit me up if you want some more info.. GL on your research project.

I've had both male and female nurses help me out when I was in the hospital and I don't care who's taking care of me as long as they're doing their job right and they're nice to the patient.
With the current nursing shortage, are sallaries going up to help draw more people in?

I think that "Male Nurse" stigma is old and no one really cares anymore.

My wife is a nurse, and many times I wish I had chosen that field. Salaries have never been higher ($50k and up) and their knowledge base is so impressive. Nurses today know more than docs did 20 years ago.

Thanks for your info guys, i get a little self concious about it since a large majority of my school is health majors (PA, PT, OT, Pre-Med) and people always ask me "well if you like helping people why not become a PA" And double0si plan on either going to ER or OR when i get out for a little bit before i go back for my nurse anesthetist degree (big money here i come)
