Terrible News!

Pat Tillman, former safety for the Arizona Cardinals has died in combat in Afghanistan- he left the NFL and millions of dollars to make $18,000 a year as an American soldier- he was a member of the special forces and will rightfully be remembered as an American hero. God bless all of our soldiers

I realize he is a hero and that he died for his country. The thing that pisses me off though is that we have hundreds of hero's that have died. How come they get about 1 min of coverage on the news? Just because the guy played football all we hear about is how great he was and the story of his life. People dont realize that there were others killed in his convoy, where is the news on them? They are heros just like him. I cant imagine how there familys feel.

Very true Bouncer, it's just that people feel they sort of know this guy, as opposed to others who have died. Every other person over there is a hero in my opinion, and their deaths are not a bit less important than his.

Agreed

But I think one reason why he is getting more attention is becuase of all the money he left in the NFL to serve for our country.

Yes I agree to a point, however, the majority of the people that join the military do not do it to "serve their country", they do it as a last resort to make ends meet, pay for college, benefits etc...very few do it out of honor, duty and/or respect for their country. Turning down millions of dollars to go a serve in the Special Forces in a hot zone is a true sign of character on his part.

BUT...in general, our troops do not get the recognition that they deserve...I do agree with that whole heartedly!

Very true .I really didnt think about it like that. Family and friends are worth way more than any amount of money. All the soldiers are risking that.

That shit is really kind of offensive. My family has a long standing history with the US military, navy, and marines. Turning down that kind of money shows no more character than anyone leaving and fighting/dying for an asshole president. I'm sorry, but that is just rude. My family has lost several people in every war the US has been involved in since WWI. I'm sorry none of them were offered millions of dollars to throw a fucking ball across a field, but they sure as hell had character and a hell of a lot of balls too. And none of them did it to make ends meet.
