Question for pet owners.
Hi all. Just wondering how much it roughly ended up costing to get a cats or dogs teeth done, and if there was anything wrong with them how much more did it cost.

Do you mean cleaned? Or something else? There is tooth paste that you can buy for cats and dogs.

Oh I brush there teeth, but one of his teeth is loose and the gum around it doesnt look good at all. Plus he has plaque build up around some teeth, that the vet will need to remove. I brush his teeth cause his breath can wake the dead. I ask the vet about it 2 years ago. But she said that his teeth were fine then. Now I know she was wrong, and believeing her is probably going to cost me big time. Just wondering how much.

First off, change your vet, she sounds like a moron. I have no idea how much it would cost because I dont know exactly what needs to be dont. The only way to find out is have the vet let you know how much it will be.

LOL This is all too familiar to me...the bad cat breath! Our cat would not stand to have his teeth cleaned so eventually they decayed and in the process he had breath that could make ya gag.
He had a loose tooth and it was protruding forward. We took him to the vet and it litterally fell out when she just touched it with a pencil eraser tip. She did this to another tooth and it fell out as well. He needed some serious work and he was left with no teeth. The charge was not too bad though, she gave him anestessia, pulled all of his teeth (they all came out easilly so no extra fees for root canals, etc.), updated shots, routine physical, kept him overnight and the bill was around $200. After he had no teeth he continued to eat hard food (that's what the vet said to do, their stomachs are made to break down large pieces of food) for about 2 years until we noticed him loosing weight. Now he eats canned food and is maintaining his weight, all 6 lbs. He's a tiny little thing and is now going deaf and senile, barfs on the carpet and meow's relentlessly for food but we still love him. He'll be 19 next month.

Awww...Puddles you are such a devoted animal lover. Sounds alot like some cats we have had, barfed and stuff, but you cant just put them down because you have had them for so long.
My BF had his dogs teeth all pulled because her breath was horendous and also the teeth were all rotten. It costed $200 (Canadian) to do the whole mouth. So much better now that her breath doesnt wreak and she eats soft food. |

Oh my goodness. you made me laugh so hard. And wow 19 that is old but that just shows that you have kept him well. My babies are 2 and 3, and the girl was born deaf, and her moew is so loud it is funny, she pukes everywhere as well. Him, besides the breath is my big baby, he is a good boy. They are both big cats though about 12 pounds each. And strong as bricks, kick eachothers ass daily, she doesnt put up with much. lol.
And thank goodness only about 200$ cause I was sitting here thinking about 1200. And of course I am changing vets. I wont go back to that women again. I should have kept with my gut instinct. Thanks. Smiles. |

I am definitly going to have to look into that, specially if they have 15 more years to go. Last year it was crystals, the food I give them is good, but it wasnt the best for her, it had .001 more magn. then she should be getting, and that ended up with a vet bill, and two new mattresses. Lol. I got up in the middle of the night to pee, and when I went back to bed it was wet. She was trying to tell me she was sick, meanwhile I had no clue and thought she was just an evil cat.

It runs around $375 to get my dogs teeth cleaned...the only way to do it right is when they put him under. It's the same vet that you see on "Emergency Vet" on Animal Planet so it is a little expensive but totally worth it. Best Vet around IMO.

Yeah, barfing and all I love my kitty. We got him when he was so small he could fit in the palm of my hand. He was the runt of the litter and no one else would take him. When he was younger he destroyed a piece of furniture by clawing it, but aside from that, he's been a wonderful cat. We used to have cockatiels and we'd have to keep them locked up in the bedroom when we weren't home, then he learned how to open the bedroom door so he could sit and watch them. LOL
I can see the end is not too far away and I dread that day but my daughter's gonna take it the hardest. She says he's her big brother since he's 7 yrs. older than her. He was afraid of her when she was a baby and wouldn't go near her until she started feeding him when she was about 4 y.o.

I have owned over ten dogs in my time and never once had there teeth cleaned, you shouldnt need to have there teeth cleaned unless there is some form of disease, if you give your dog bones evry week this is how they naturally look after therte teeth, they can spend hours chewing on one bone which is the same as us brushing our teeth
