The reason Ricky "retired"
Ricky Williams says if he resumes his NFL career, he wants to do it with the Oakland Raiders.
The Miami Herald report cites a Sports Illustrated e-mail exchange with Williams in which he says he would ''love it'' if he were to resurrect his career in Oakland as early as next year. Tampering rules prohibit the Oakland Raiders from talking about their interest in retired running back Ricky Williams. (Rick Stewart / GettyImages) Williams filed his retirement papers with the NFL earlier this week. But according to the report he would consider returning as early as next season. Last week, Williams told The Herald he had heard rumors the Raiders would offer the Dolphins a first-round pick to get his rights To that end, Williams reportedly said California would be the only place that would accept him because there are "crazy fans who expect a weirdo." Williams, a native of San Diego, also told Sports Illustrated that playing for the Silver and Black would be the only way he would consider a comeback. He cited to the magazine the strength of the team's offensive line and the presence of Norv Turner, his offensive coordinator for the last two seasons in Miami, as reasons the Raiders are attractive to him. Under Turner's watch, Williams rushed for 1,853 yards for the Dolphins in 2002.

How the times have changed. Back in the days of Lamonica, Blanda, Hubbard and Branch, Al Davis had to actually go to the prisons to get his players. Now it seems that the criminals are willing to come to him to offer their services. Just what we need to get a spark back in The Silver and Black. Watch out, cause here we come.
