We hope for your brother Megiddo, anybody planning to donate money for this. I will probably try and get whatever little money I have together. My brother already donated £100....

The worst part about this, is that a good portion of the deaths could have been avoided. What so many victims did was they went back to their homes after the big 12 foot wave came in. They'd never seen a tsunami, so they went to check out the sight. Most of them died when the 30 ft wave hit.
Yeah, I know you're right. I remember one English guy saying he was walking along the beach when the water suddenly receded 200 meters, leaving coral reefs bare. He didn't know what that meant and was caught in the first wave. That is such a classic sign of an impending tsunami. The water is sucked out to sea first and then, minutes later, it comes back with a vengence. If I ever saw the water sudenly suck back 200 meters, I would start running immediately.

I would have thought an educated European would have recognized the sign.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of stories about people who saw the beaches "getting bigger" and just sat there. I don't understand how people would not have some idea there was something wrong, especially educated people.
