1000 lbs. Bench Press

picked up the current Planet Muscle and it has an article. Gene Rychlak bench presses 1005 pounds. This was done at the international powerlifting association nationals in Shomokin Dam PA. So he is the first man to officially bench press over 1000 pounds.

He has broken his own world record 6 times since he put up 900 in a sanctioned meet on 11/16/03.

This is just unbelievable. Who would have thought any man could ever bench press that much weight.

He says that he does'nt even have a set routine. He pretty much works out when he feels hes ready and does what he feels like doing.

BTW if you don't know much about him his stats are 6'1 382 lbs.

Take his bench shirt away and then see what he can lift. It may still be impressive but nowhere near 1,000.

I think it depends on the person-a guy that used to work out at a gym I lifted at always used the shirt, so he couldn't do jack without it. He was at about 550 with it and 250 without it.

I don't believe Gene has even done 700 raw, so he get's atleast 300lbs out of his shirt.

I know a powerlifter from my board who witnessed Gene shaking like a leaf with 500 on the bar, without a shirt on.

These elite guys know how to get the most out of their equipment.

The shirts are very tight fitting and the material is almost like an elastic. They have come a long way. When you put on a shirt that is very heavy and you are using light weight, you can pick up the bar and you actually have to pull the bar down to your chest because it is so tight. The shirts are generally designed so that your arms come out in front of you and you almost can't movonce you're in them.

All I know is that the big boys like Gene, Ryan K, Lattimer and Mendelson can all do well over 700 raw. Hell I saw a vid of Ryan K doing 650 for an ez double raw and that was 6years ago.

Don't believe everything. These guys practice so often with shirts, it's pretty much a skill.
