Car Stereo ?

So heres the deal, three weeks ago my amp and subs were stolen. Now, (after getting a car alarm installed) I am looking to rebuild my system. About a week ago I picked up an Alpine 700w mono amp that has an 350w RMS at 2ohm. What I am looking to do is bridge two 4 ohm 12" subs. The subs I am interested in are:

A) Two kicker comps that have a 300w RMS combined

or

B) Two infinaty 1230w that have a 600w RMS combined

So I guess my question is, is it better to overpower the subs by 50w, or underpower the infinatys. Normally I would think that the kickers would be the better choice out of the two, but they max at 600w combined and that scares me. What do ya think. Any help is appreciated.

kickers are a better choice and more power is always better less distortion.

Juice- It is a 94 Explorer, so no trunk to deal with

Rocket- Would you be worried about blowing them with such a low max?

Thanks for the help fellas

Excess wattage doesn't blow speakers....distortion does. As long as the music isn't distorted while playing at high volume, then you should be okay with the Kickers. You plan on getting an external x-over? The built in x-overs in amps are not sufficient enough to effectively drown out higher frequencies. I currently have 4 Rockford Fosgate HE 10" subs being ran off 2 Punch 401s's, and then a 201s running my pioneer mids and highs. Infinity makes decent mids and highs, but their subs lack the deep thumpiness of Kicker, RF, or JL. If you're looking for good deals on car audio, check out www.sounddomain.com If you find your stuff cheaper on another website they will match it, and give you an additional 5% off. I bought all my stuff there, and didn't spend over $600.

check it out bro. I have a system on my stanger. Tonight i will try to take some pics. I got a Kenwood 800watt amp, with a pioneer deh-p3600 deck. The sub is a 1 10inch Sony Xplod 1,100 watt. I know its only one sub but the thing that does the trick is the box bro.

Me and a friend made it ourselves, cost us only 22 bucks (the mfd plywood 3/4"). I got the design from a web page. It can either hold one 10 inch or a 12. One is all u need to get the explosive, ground and chest pounding bass. Sounds awesome bro. Most people think i got 2 12inch woofer and they freak when i say i got one 10 inch.

here the link and pics bro.

I recommend if u good at carpentry do it yourself if not take the instructions on how to make it to a carpenter. JUST DONT BUY IT FROM THE SITE, if u want i will post up the measurements and all. We've done several of them alrealy ranging from 10's and 12"s.

hey man why dont u get a Pioneer Premier, those pound awesome. They vary in wattage. Some go from 1000watts and as high as 2000watts. With the box im telling u, u wont get any distortion. Just be adjusting the amp and radio tell u get the clear sound u want. Its all clear, deep bass. Also a goo 12 inch jl audio would sound good but thier too expensive.

I honestly never thought of gettin an external cross over. I've always relied on the amp for that. I will defately look into that. One good thing about my Explorer is that it came with a pretty decent factory amp to power the door speakers, so im not so concerned with them. I'll check into that site, sounds like a pretty good deal. Thanks much.

I have mine in a 97 Expedition, and it POOUUNNDDSSS. I had to get new door speakers, and 3/4" tweeters mounted in the door pillars. I wanted overall sound quality to go with my Clarion in dash 7" Widescreen monitor, and PS2.

You're original post has me puzzled. It is a mono amp, but you're bridging it? Bridging is a term used when connecting more than one channel together. What you are going to be doing is running the mono channel in a parallel to achieve the 2 ohm load.

Am I assuming this is a 150w amp?

Cops didnt do shit, so im taking matter into my own hands, im gonna fuck them up if i ever catch them. Something called Torture to them, so they can learn not to steal no more, well they just wont be able to

It's usually ALWAYS someone you know. I have my system stolen from a well known thief at my school. I simply walked over to his house acting like I didn't know what was up, walked in, that's what everyone did at his house, witnessed my stuff, his father asked me to leave and then I called the police.

Had Clarion Multimedia surround in hopes of getting a moniter, Clarion head unit, Alpine V12 amp for surround, Blade amp (they don't make anymore, but was a high dollar amp at the time, way under rated), and 2 12 inch Clif Designs, another high dollar item that was under rated.

Next were my Cat fog lights. Some punk living right up the street from me stole them. I never did like that asshole.

thats what friends told me and the cops. Couldve been someone u knew or heard it. I used to jam out loud on it, while driving. I had a few suspects in mind, old friends. When they came over i never said a thing about it until a year later. They freaked, i wanted to see thier reactions.

Another thing is that im from a city of close to 300,000 people. The cops also told me that they had caught some people from the South Side doing crazy shit like that. They were some little druggies, who would steel and then sell for drugs. It stopped for a while until my friend who lives 2 houses away got his stereo stolen 1 month ago.

Also while they stole mine, there was a car stereo stealing spree. My friend who lives in the northside, his brothers car got broken into, but they chases the fuckers. Their were alot of reported car break in in a small amount of time. Just messed up.

I dont know, i hate these people, wish they were driving right now and they wreck. I say this because man, we work our asses off for money to buy thing. Next thing u know it, u got some lazy ass who doesnt work and decides he wants a stereo, which is easy for them cause they dont have to buy one and they just break into our cars, which we paid so much for. I serioulsy hate people like this. I wish for every robbery they did, its a finger off of thier hand.

Living in a city is a bit different. It's easy for people to walk down a street, pick out a couple cars, then come back another night to hit them. Sometimes they just go on a breaking spree too. If ou lived out of the city, or you were the only one to get hit, then it is most likely someone you know.

Speaking of, I also had a system stolen from me when I was 16 years old. That was 10 years ago. Wanna know something fucked up? My little brother just bought two amps from a dude at a club. They were MY OLD AMPS!!! I know because the one had a partcular screw driver scratch I ,made when i was pissed and the other one had a R channel blown. Somehow both amps managed to stick together. He actually paid the same price that I paid for these things used 10 years ago. I told him he was ripped off.

thats crazy man. Its like everything, just gets passed by and passed by.

The strange thing about all this is that in front of my house theres a light pole giving light to the whole street area and its right in front of my house. My car was just parked up the pole, like a spotlight. I just pray to god it never happens again, if so i will never have a system anymore, or if i catch them u know, hehehehe

Sorry about the confusion, my amp is a mono channel alpine. What I wanted to do is to bridge two 4ohm 12's to a single 2 ohm channel. What I have decieded to do now is use one dual voice coil 12. I just bought a 12" Image Dynamic sub. They are a newer company but from what I hear, its a quality sub.

Yeah, I think everyone who has had a stereo has some sort of war story. When mine got stollen, I confronted the kid who I thought did it. He denied it to the fullest, so I'm counting this one as a loss. Hopefully my alarm will stop them next time.

Ahhh, ok. Be careful so you get the right sub. Alot of DVC subs are rated at 8 ohms. Make sure yours is truly a 4 ohm sub.

Also, Image dynamic subs are not very versatile as far as enclosures go. I am not quite sure what enclosure is best though. Hopefully the place you bought it from would know best.
