The advice you get at the Gym.
What is the worse advice you heard at the gym?
Today I was talking about my cutting diet with a friend who is into BB competitions. I was rudely interrupted by some random guy who "angerily' told me the best thing I could do is drink 2 beers a day mininmum and 1 glass of wine as part of a postwork meal. He was f******* militant about it...following me around making his points. The only supplement he used. He read it in several magazines blah blah. Has anyone heard anything like this. *BTW he looked like shit. Last edited by NYCmitch25 : 04-07-05 at 02:09 PM. |

Most of the time I get why do you squat so low or why do you bench with an arch. Ur cheating blah blah blah.
I hate when ppl see me doing lockouts with a lot of weight and are like anybody can do that. So i'll take off 100+lbs and they can't even take the bend out of the bar. I get a lot of shit for using bands and chains and ppl tell me they don't work or they they make the lift easier |

I've actually read to drink a glass of wine about an hour before competition along with a serving of glyco-something. It is supposed help vascularity or some bs like that.
I usually get asked whey I go so heavy on deadlifts. I always say, "So I don't workout for years and look the same year after year like you". It usually works.

i gotten shitloads of suckie adivce but they can all kiss my ass cause im the big guy there and dont listen to them.
One of the worst was when i took a friend to my gym and he told me, "Hey lets hit the whole body today". Im like "no", I got back and biceps today. He insists that im not gonna grow by just doing 2 different exercises. I hate it when people are persistant.

No kidding man . I used to train at lifestyles for about a year then left and went to powerhouse, then left and went back to lifestyles after 2 years (big mistake), friggin' same guys doing the same routines from two years before and they all looked the exact same as when I last saw them. Same 3 idiots in the corner doing more bullshitin' than training. If maintaining was their goal they certainly accomplished it.
Lifestyles is more of soccer mom place and going there after being at powerhouse, which is more hardcore, was a big change. Screw that Crap, I stopped my membership after 3 weeks of being back. Found another place to lift though, so all is good. sorry for ranting. |

I once had a fella ask me a question when I was at the bottom of a squat, my eyes nearly popped out of my head with shock, no nooo this isn't really happening. A more common gripe I have is when I'm on a squat wrack, bench or smith machine and people step in fron or near to get plates or dumbells. I mean its not fucking hard to wait 40 seconds til someone finishes their set is it? some people are just born with shit between their ears |

"Never move the weight more than 3 inches down when benching, my doctor said so".
not at the gym but at The supplement stor I was in. The lady told me the beast when stacked with ephedrine turned into steroids because it was one alkaloid away anyways.

It wasn't at they gym, but I'm just gonna vent here anyway. I just went to GNC cause I needed a quick supply of thermogenics to finish off the last week of my diet. (I know I probably deserve whatever I get for going to GNC but it was a necessary evil to get my quick fix!)
I was looking at some fish oil/flax seed pills, just checking out their prices and started talking to the out-of-shape, pipe-cleaner armed, fat bastard working in the store and explained my goals for the next 6-9months (put on about 30lbs of mass while staying below 12%bf). He, of course, recommended their weight gainer shakes. He proceeded to piss me off even more by explaining that it doesn't matter what you eat cause it all gets converted to the same thing in your body, so all that matters is getting enough calories. Maybe its the low carb moodiness thats making me bitchy to everybody, but I proceeded to explain to him that it's dumbasses like him with bad information that foil peoples attempts to get in shape, which causes them to quit and remain lard asses. I just bought my thermogenic, informed him it was the last purchase I would ever make at GNC because I'm not gonna support their ignorance and left. I guess I'm just gonna have to plan ahead better to make sure I don't run out of stuff or just drive farther to one of the local places (that I prefer anyway if I can't get it online). I freakin hate GNC--I've only met one guy that worked at one that knew jack. The last time I was traveling and wanted protein, the dope didn't even know was casein protein was. Their ignorance is perpetuating the ignorance and obesity of America! OK, I'm done venting for now. Thanks for putting up with my random rants and low carb bitchiness!

I've never had problems with bad advice at the gym...actually the opposite. When I first started learning how to squat, one of the power lifters came over and helped me out. The only other time someone talked to me about training was when I was watching him on the donkey press...I told him I hadn't used it yet and he showed me how to do it. His legs were nicely developed and I've been happy with using the machine as he advised.
I've seen trainers training poorly though and I soooo want to say something but I keep it to myself. I can't stand it when I see them chit-chatting with a client through reps, TEACH them what to do and how to do it right. GEEZ!
