2005 MUSTANG GT

Bros I test drove this baby yesterday, what a ride! powerfull! I'm not too crazy about it's looks though. The dealer had 87 octane gas in it, should have been 94 octane would have been more fun!

I'm not a big fan of new Fords either, but that new Shelby looks bad--and 450hp, damn! Watch out, keep your kids off the streets when I get my hands on that car!

Actually the lower the octain the more power you get out of the fuel. Octane retards ignition and is used to prevent high compression engines from pinging. The reason average octanes have been going up over the years is that car makers are using higher compression engines than they used to. But using the least octane that doesn't ping in your engine will result in the most power. Obviously don't go lower than the manual for your vehicle instructs you to.

Wait for the Shelby-it'll be worth it! When you feel 450horses under you, you'll know it was worth the wait!

Really. Can you post anything to back up this claim? Cause from everything i've read and seen, higher octane fuel contains more oxygen molecules which will produce a more efficient burn and dyno tests have shown higher octain to create a tad more power. Here's one article i've seen.

I'd feel a little let down since the shelby is getting the same engine as the ford gt but doesn't have the same 500hp. What's up with that?

if you read in that article they are advancing the timing with each pull also. THey call this flash timing when on the dyno. guys use this to bullshit the printout. you are both actually saying kind of the same thing. higher octane prevents detonation which increases horsepower, and with HOT ROD advancing the timing they are compensating for the allowance octane increase will allow in degrees of total timing. More timing without detonation= horsepower.

True they played with the timing on each run, but if you notice, they started at 31 degrees on each pull and then advanced more from there. So how is it that 31 degrees of advance on 94 octane produced more power than 87 octane on 36 degrees? As well as most of the other tests at 31 degrees?

Quote:
With the timing set conservatively at 31 degrees BTDC, the sturdy 360 surpassed the best 87-octane numbers by 2 hp and 5 lb-ft
Quote:
100 Octane unleaded we began with the 31-degree setting to maintain consistency and to see if any noteworthy patterns emerged. The dyno video monitor flashed just over 400 hp
Quote:
114 Octane we rang up our highest numbers yet at the 31-degree setting.

Actually it is not the same engine.GT uses aluminum block and dry-sump oiling and a screw type super charger.and it is to expensive.Shelby's engine is iron block aluminum head, four valve and roots type super charger.almost same as the old cobra engine but bored to be 5.4 liters.

Actually they both use the 5.4l block, just one is aluminum and one isn't. You can't bore and stroke the 4.6l to 5.4l cause there isn't enough clearance between the water jackets and the block skirt. They both use a screw type blower. And both use the same 4v heads. So there really is no reason why it can't produce the same numbers.

All I need is my gym bag...? =) Plus theirs nothing like hitting the town in convertible on a summer night. The S is a sports bike on 4 wheels.

I also have a CRV w/AWD 4doors 4seats. Sometimes It still is a pain in the ass not having the seats. Always takin two rides when you meet up with ppl... etc. etc.

I hope you get the STI. Post the pics when you do.

I got my info from motor trend magazine and you are right about bore and stroke.but they there is a huge power production difference between roots and screw type of blower.as I am typing this I am looking at one of my old Muscle Mustangs magazine they did a simple swap on a cobra they took out the stock Eaton blower and installed screw type one and the power jumped to 360hp rear wheels to 475hp to the wheels and couple go fast parts like new chip bigger throttle body and some headers power jumped to mind blowing 708hp to the flywheel.and the engine internally was stock.

This the 9/03 issue of the Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords.

Article is much more detailed.I just tried to give some short info.
