The key is buying in bulk. We only shop at costco. We buy chicken breast by the dozens. Meats by the pounds. Big boxes of oats. Lots of brown rice. And bags of veggies.
Only have to go once every 2-3 weeks. Saves time, and money. |

In my new house we are getting a stand up freezer so I can do what bouncer does. We have a sams club here that is pretty much the same as costco. I can't wait to buy enough so I can go once every other month. But right now we shop once a week at the regular grocery store and about every two weeks at the bulk stores.

I like to go weekly when I lived near one. I buy basically the same as bouncer. I am constantly staying at a few different places to sleep so it is kind of difficult to stay organized. But that will change in the next 2 months at the latest

I go to Costco about once every 6 weeks and the supermarket maybe twice a month or a little more often for fresh items. I have a chest freezer and walk in pantry so buying in bulk is most convenient and it saves money. You can even freeze gallons of milk and it's 50 cents a gallon less than the supermarket.
Bouncer, check out the family size bags of frozen veggies at Walmart, they have a much larger variety than Costco and are significantly less than the supermarket. I filled half of a shopping cart with em last time. I hate Walmart but to just shoot in for frozen stuff isn't bad. Stone, Sam's is very similar to Costco and you'll love having the freezer!

Grocery list for Costco is something like:
6 or 7 bags of chicken tenders 4 or 8 packs of ground turkey 2 or 3 packs of chicken saussages a few dozen eggs and egg whites in cartons a few bags of fish oats a bag of fresh peppers (2 ea. of green, red and yellow, I make stuffed peppers with the ground turkey) a few gallons of milk Splenda Big container of nuts 2 lb. loaf of multi grain bread big container of mixed greens cheese (fresh mozzerella or brie) artichoke hearts soups olives Those are the basics and then I pick up other things as needed like spices, detergents and soaps, diet soda, mouth wash, goodies for when friends and family come over. We used to buy cases of bottled water at Costco but now we get it delivered. Costco also has a pharmacy but it's half an hour from home so I get prescriptions price matched to Costco at the supermarket. Supermarket is fresh stuff (sweet taters, salad greens, tomatoes, bannanas, seasonal fruits, and what ever looks good a the time), peanutbutter, rice cakes, cat food (if Costco had what my cat eats I'd get it there), cat litter, sushi, and other incidentals.
