Gas prices in the south

I don't know if they raised much anywhere else, but here in eastern OK, the gas priced raised $.20 in 2 days. I swear, oil companies will find every way to exploit gas prices. The reasoning being that oil rigs in the south shut down becuase of hurricane Katrina. I don't understand how that can raise the gas prices so much if we get most of are oil from the middle east.

They said on thew news last night here in KY the gas was going to jump up a dollar more on the gallon.... Wife filled up her truck last night and then crashes into a concrete barrier this morning..... At least the bun in the oven and her are not hurt!!!

If gas continues to rise like it is watch out for the economy to drop.

Jumped 30cents in 2 days to 2.80. Don't think it'll go down so I think I'll fill up asap. The thing that sucks is that I'm gonna be driving over 1000 miles next week-at 20mi/gal, I'm not sure I'll make it back home!

1/4 of the oil refining capacity is in the Gulf of Mexico. Even if there is more than enough oil, there is no way to refine it into gasoline.

All refineries in the US already were running at 98% capacity before the hurricane. There has not been a new refinary built in the US since the 1970's because environmentalists have managed to keep them from being built.

I don't think most Americans realize how cheap gas is here compared to the rest of the world. It hasn't kept up with inflation by any means and it has always been cheaper than most everywhere else. We're still not anywhere near what it costs in Asia or Europe--why do you think they don't drive SUV's?

1 million gallons of oil are refined daily from the Gulf, the gov't. is now oppening the strategic reserves because we don't have the capability to run the refineries. If we had more refineries in Alaska this wouldn't be such a problem but ecologists fight this. We really need to find alternative fuel sources and actually try to conserve energy to solve the problem.

We paid $2.69 yesterday for regular to fill hubby's vehicle. Today I'll need to fill mine.

fuck this shit is killing me. Last night at 11:45pm it was $2.49 a gallon. My buddy here with me was here and gets a phone call "hey man, pump some gas right now cause at 12:00am the gas is gonna go up to $3.00 fucking dollars".

$3.00 fucking bucks a gallon, thats insane. I heard someone in school that it was gonna raise again more. I need to get a bike instead.

The Stromba is right about refining capacity, if you want to blame high prices on people, blame the "tree huggers" and "whale kissers". Similar to the nuts at P.E.T.A. No oil company is going to spend many BILLIONS of dollars to build a new refinery, and they don't have to, they know we'll pay whatever we have to. By the way, below is a list of oil companies who do and do not import oil from the middle east, and the ones that do, amounts to only about 15% of their useage. My question is, if some companies don't import from the middle east, why is it that their prices go up everytime OPEC increases the cost of oil?

Shell............................. 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels

Citgo.......................0 barrels
Sunoco...................0 barrels
Conoco...................0 barrels
Sinclair....................0 barrels
BP/Phillips..............0 barrels
Hess........................0 barrels ARC0.0 barrels

Go figure. BB

"The highest price crude-oil futures hit yesterday was $69.81 a barrel in Nymex trading, up $2.61 for the day, or 3.9%.

The record remains the $39.50 barrel price reached in April 1980, equivalent to $95.26 when adjusted for inflation."

This was a front page artilcle and if anyone has access to it you should definately breeze through it. I have been trying to convince people for several years that we are not even close to gas prices that reflect inflation over the last 20-30 years but whatever. Here is a post from last week that includes a few of my rants...

High Gas Price Frustration...

I live in charlotte nc

monday it was 2.56, and today (wednesday) it was 2.99 and is expected to jump up 30 to 40 cents by tomorrow morning
i filled up my suburban this afternoon and it cost 79.06...and it was almost 1/5 full of gas already

i went to get my cadillac (a MUCH smaller car with better mileage) at about 7:30 after baseball practice and there was like 40 cars at the gas station, and so many people were cutting each other off.....i was sitting back in my car so people would have room to GET OUT after getting there gas, and these assholes just ride rihgt by me and sit in front of me so nobody getting gas could even get out...it was ridiculous, i just went ahead and left....I filled it up on monday and i still have 13 gallons left so i should be alright for a while

Tampa has premium at $2.99/gal. No lines, however my favorite station just went to pre-pay this week due to drive-offs. I imagine our prices should be low compared to much of the country since Tampa is a major port...as long as we don't get destroyed by a hurricane.

Wow, where did you find out about this? I'm interested to read it myself. I'm not questioning it, I just want to where to find it.

Well, I wouldn't mind paying gas prices that reflected inflation if my wages reflected inflation too.
