when u are having injury rehab...?
i'm starting therapy on my shoulder this wednesday
to those that have had injury rehab, do they ask you to stop lifting weights? I've been lifting with this injury for about 2 or 3 years because its not a painful injury, and i know since i've been lifting for 2 or 3 years with it 2 or 3 days isn't gonna make a different i'm just intrigued to know what i'm in for and if i will be asked to stop while rehabbing for the next 5 weeks or so i've worked hard and gained alot of solid size over just the past 4 months or so and I really don't want to lose what i worked so hard to gain so i guess i'm sorta nervous in that respect i have internal impingement or "throwers shoulder", from playing baseball, only time my shoulder gets bothered is when i throw a baseball, lifting weights it doesn't bother me at all last question is how painful is therapy usually? are you pretty much inactive for the rest of the day? like if i do some internal/external rotations on my right side, my arms burns like hell and goes almost numb for a little while...and that's one of the primary exercises i'll be doing in rehab |

I would tell you to listen to your therapist. Voice your concerns of losing muscle mass and he/she may be able to recommend certain excersises that will prevent further injury.
On the other hand, I believe that taking 3-4 consecutive weeks off once every year or two is not detrimental to your gains. It may give you the chance to get a new mindset on your goals, allow you to really listen to your body when you get back into the gym, adjust diet and training routines etc. Just my 2 cents...

I've been through two shoulder surgeries and rehab. Mainly they will work and stretch you more than anything else to increase your range of motion. Yes, mine hurt, but mainly because I had been whacked open just a few days earlier. Yes, you should listen to your therapist, intently. There is no sense in taking a chance until your rehab is completed. I know it's hard to give up good muscle, but you're young and it won't take as long to get it back once you've had it, the muscle that is. Both my surgeries resulted from impingements which eventually, with some added bone spurs chewing up muscle, to surgeries, no choice. Believe me, waiting for your rehab to be completed is nothing compared to waiting for 7 months or so to lift if you have to get surgery if you overdo. Been there, done that, twice. Good luck. BB
