Genetics - How unfair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I found a new workout partner and he this huge dude that competes in local BB shows. This guys delts, chest, arms and back are HUGE. He has been working out for 4 years and he is pretty impressive.
Now for my rant. I've been working out for 2 years and I weigh 180. I am about 20lbs behind this guy on every lift which IMO isn't that much considering the size difference between the two of us. This is what pisses me off. We decide to deadlift last week and this dude can't even do 315 for 5 reps..He is shaking and really struggling to get the first rep up. Keep in mind he weighs about 220lbs shredded. I go up and pull 500lbs for 5 reps and stop b/c I start losing my grip..I could have got 6-8. I know this is genetics playing it's unfair and nasty role b/c if I'm stronger than him on back and not that far behind him on other lifts then you would think we would be close in size. Ok, I'm done hating...Back to your normal programming. ![]()

i feel you man, i got a huge bastard friend like that. The ting about this dude, he would eat at times 2 meals a day and still grow. Im all here doing a cycle and growing slowly when this dude wasnt using it at the time. Even worst when he did juice up, i hated him. He was 6'2'' around 275-280.

I used to like the fact that I was deceptively strong for my size but now I wanna be a freak and growing (naturally) is just too damn slow!

Gaining size doesn't always warrant the ability to possess strength. There are guys that can grow without having to lift a lot of weight. Therefore they look great, but aren't always that strong. Many don't feel the need to lift more and risk injury cause they're growing just fine as is. There's a guy at my gym who looks great, but he doesn't need to lift that much. Should he? Not really since all he's interested in is hypertrophy. It's just like when the scrawny pukes ask you how much you bench. Doesn't matter cause weight is all for ego. It's all about how you look and how your body is responding to what you lift. Unless you're a powerlifter.

Strength and size do not go hand and hand.

"Strength" has many different definitions. Body proportions have alot to do with how much weight you can lift. Your body is a system of levers and how those levers are constructed makes all the difference in how "strong" you are. For instance...I'm tall with long arms and long legs and a short torso. Great for basketball and/or wide receiver, but shitty for lifting lots of weight. Bicep curls for example...if the distance between my elbow and my hand is a full 6 inches longer than another guy, if he has the same amount of muscle mass, than of course he's going to be able to lift more weight because he has a greater mechanical advantage than I do. The longer the distance the muscle is required to move the weight, the more mass is required to move it too. I don't know the physics behind it, but I know on a basic level that this is true. Muscle genetics play a part yes, but the way your built plays as much of a part.
