A Hybrid for Truck Lovers!

If you are like me trucks are the vehicles for you. But you always have to worry about the gas milage. Chevy now has a Hybrid Silverado!

Ok shibby hate to rain on the "alternative fuel trucks" just went on the epa's fuel economy and pulled up the following stats on flex fuel vehicles
on the 05 silverado the gas 5.3l gets 16/20mgp the flex fuel version gets....12/16(but has lower emissions) wow that sux... ok here's more info on it on every car made in 05model year the E85 flex fuel versions all were less fuel efficient requiring the buyer to use more fuel... ouch
Ok more info the electric gas trucks combos get only 15% better fuel ecomomy so that truck that gets 15/20 now only gets 17.25/23 but the cost is now around 5k more for that engine. If gas is $2.90 a gallon it would take you driving about 50,ooo miles for that extra 5k purchase to pay off. So most likely 4 yrs with average driving.
---everything here was done using a statistical average for full size trucks the variance is minimal between the models
So 4 yrs, 5k extra and 50000 miles you will break even, now in the hybrid cars they have done some amazing things... the problem with the trucks is the rear gear and the amount of torque and hauling capacity, never will we see a vehicle that can tow a house and drive across the us on a tank of gas

:hmmm: :thumbsdow I got to excited on the idea to worry about the details. For me I just like the looks and usefullness of having a truck. I havn't every needed the power to pull a tractor or haul tons of material. Maybe there will be something for me real soon.

Timber is on a distinguished road
I'm a Truck guy myself an your not going to get a fuel efficient full size truck in the USA but if you have a Diesel you can use all kinds of alternative fuel and Bio diesel combinations. You can even make your own if your into it but its a bit of work and a little dangerous. It won't be until the Hydrogen engine is perfected that your gone see a true user friendly alternative fuel
