Your internet connection speed.
My cable internet is only supposed to be 1500k but it tests out at 4700k or 4.7 mega bits. Not that im complaining. Its faster, I just better not be getiing charged for it!
Test yours to see what it is. Go here: http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ choose your connection and state and report back the results.

when doin those tests you have to pic the hosting test server closest to you... Mines always around 3000k upload less

I got 4.5 here at home with my cable. At work we have dial-up but it looks like wireless highspeed is available there finally so we'll be upgrading ASAP.

Comcast has been steadily moving the speeds up on their service. Mine has gone from 1.5Mbps to almost 5Mbps recently.

The speed result was too high or too low
The speed test will not accept results that are negative or too high for the indicated connection type. This test was not counted. I guess I am just too fast for them.

what kind of service do you all have?
i have dsl, that's the slower one right? i was chatting with my provider yesterday to see if there was anything wrong with my connection because it's gotten slower, but i couldn't run the test they wanted me to. this one has me at less than 500kb for everything. and around 20sec. 1MB download time. that sounds slow as shit compared to all you guys. oh, and oddly enough it said my connection was "not bad" :hmmm:

Only take those results w/a grain of salt. You don't know how many hops your connection is taking or where it is being routed to. Try downloading a meter... www.dumeter.com. We use it at work after we install someones broadband to see what they are getting before we lock down their pipe. After you install it select kbps inthe options (it is KBps by default which is bytes not bits per second). It's handy to see what your transfer rate is when you're downloading.

467.4 kilobits per second on the wireless laptop that picks up the cable from the main computer. That computer is hooked up with Brighthouse Networks (formerly Road Runner).
Tonight hubby installed the Verizon wireless system on another laptop and it was slow as shit but the signal strength here at home wasn't very good. He took it in the car and drove around a bit and the signal got stronger but still not fantastic. I'll take it to work tomorrow and see how it is there. It's amazing, basically it's a little cellphone kind of device that hooks up to the computer.

ha ha...I tested my connection at work...ridiculous
