What were you raised and what's an example of a "viewed as religions but they are not what you might be thinking of when you are thinking of the twisted Christian viewpoints that many people have.'

My dad went to seminary school, he was a Baptist preacher for a while and then became a Non-Denominational Christian Counselor. The rest of my family was basically the same - Baptist - though it varied a little. Family members (even very extended ones) who did not behave in accordance to Christian principles were left out to dry. Most of them were severe hypocrites that couldn't see their own issues because they were too busy judging everyone else.

I played around with the idea of Jehovah's Witnesses religion for a while (everyone shut up if there is nothing nice to say ), looked into other Christian practices (Methodist etc), tried simple meditation and other things of that nature. I pretty much decided that none of these types of things were something I felt like being involved with.

So, up until I started studying present and past World Religions, I found that I was just much happier being me and not worrying about things like this. However, some of the practices I have been studying have interested me. I will go into details when my eyes aren't half shut (these early morning cardio sessions are killing me).

I like to talk religion also. It's one of those things that I can't relate with. Even though I was raised christian (Luthren) and probably was affraid to openly talk about my disbelief in god for a long time, I don't think I ever really belived in it.

If one of those people came up to me in the gym and asked how devoted I am to jesus and what not. I would scream real loud, JESUS HAS GIVEN ME THE POWER!! then I would pick up a 130lb DB and hurl it across the gym. i would walk up to him and say, "you dare question my devotion??

if that dosent send the little shit on his way, then i would just kick him in his ass.

Well I havn't read them. Just quite a few reviews on them. Like the Divinci Code (havn't read it either ) it talks about all the theories, but are based more as a factual book instead of a fiction.

I personally find this stuff way more intriguiging than storys about people who may or may not have existed doing things that most likely couild not have happened.
My problem with what I see as "organized religion" is the conformity thing. If you dont believe 100% and you dont see things the way they do then youre somehow bad. Although I dont see myself as a spiritual guy, I have no problem with that aspoect of things.
A friend of mine put it pretty well the other day. He says that if you do go to church or practice your religion you need to do it for you and take what you want from it. Not what others want you to get from it.
