Fright Night (1985)

Believe it or not I had never seen Fright Night until just last night. It was on HDNET Movies so I recorded it.

Everyone I had ever heard talk about this movie really thought it was pretty good. It got damn good reviews to boot. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1007910-fright_night/

Am I the only one that thought this movie was as lame as you can get. Its wasn't funny or scary so what the hell am I missing here?

It has been forever since I saw it, so I can't really speculate too much about it, but I would imagine the reviews are at least 20 years old...maybe. I guess for the 80's it was a good movie, along with the Nightmare on Elm Street movies...but now when I watch them, I really don't care for them anymore. Movies these days are much better IMHO. Must be why they are remaking so many of the classics.

I disagree 100%. Older movies are almost always better then the remake in terms of a story line. Sure they add computer effects and such but the basic story is almost always forgotten and special effects are emphasized.

With that said, I can agree that alot of 80's movies were complete garbage and could be made better.

P.S. You dont honestly think films like "lawrence of arabia" or "Raging Bull" could be made better today do you? there is nothing that can be done to films like that to make them better. they were done perfectly.

Sorry. The classics you mentioned could be remade but probably not better. I should have been more specific with my answer. I meant the classic horror movies where the visual affects are crap.

They should remake Clash of the Titans.

We saw what happened when they revisited the Star Wars trilogy...not exactly a remake, but they picked up where they left off, if you excuse the anachronism

It's tough to redo something, I think you get caught up trying to make it better -- or it won't be worthwhile -- and it doesn't work out. In the case of Star Wars, the characters were perfect for their roles, from Carrie Fisher to Billy Dee Williams to Harrison Ford...wow...Hayden Christiansen and Natalie Portman...notsomuch

Good point. Don't forget Mark Hamill, the voice of Darth Vader - James Earl Jones, and Ian McDiarmid as the emperor. At least they brought McDiarmid back as Pallpatine who becomes the emperor. Hayden Christiansen is one of the most pitifully banal actors I've ever seen. His delivery is horrible. You can't really fault the actors to a certain extent, because look at the script they had to deal with.
