I know people are lazy and all, but it seems that a 2 minute walk is just too much for people these days. The campus that I go to school at isn't very big. It would probably take 5-6 minutes to walk from one side to the other. I hear people complain because they "have to walk all the way over there". It takes just as much time to get in there car, drive over, find a different parking spot, and then get out of there car. I wish people would understand and take those moments each day to relax and use the exercise to release stress.

I know when I was in college, my only worry was being able to walk there in time. Not really the bother of having to walk. I didnt live on campus so I had to park and walk all the time. I was a bit of a lazy ass in college though.

Shibby, I would have to say that society in general has forgotten what it would be like if we didn't have the luxuries we have today. Walking isn't the problem most of the time. It's the heat and humidity. People would rather sit in their car with the air going burning precious gas and destroying our ozone than walk these days. God forbid that they actually sweat once in a while.

That's the funny thing. With the heat and humidity here it's a good 20 degrees higher when they get in the car. There also isn't enough time to cool the car off before they could already have walked. It's just annoying to see these obese people complain about there weight and everyday they have opportunities to do something about it.

Notice that it's not just walking. Anything that requires a little effort or, OMG this is truly horrific, manual labor. Give me an ax and a pile of firewood and I'll have a ball. Seriously, I love splitting wood. Always have. It's not just physical activity either. If someone doesn't know how to do something, instead of giving it a crack and trying to figure it out at least once, they expect someone to just do it for them. Waiting 2 seconds longer than they have to and some people lose their minds.

We both know that, but for some reason it makes more sense to some people to do that rather than walk. Society has been dumb-down, been made stupid, by thinking that the easier way is the best way. For example, where I work we have 3 parking lots. One on our side, the gymnastics part. One on the aquatics side, and one in the rear. People will park on our side of the lot, come into our facility and want info on the aquatics center. I will tell them that they need to walk over to the aquatic center to get that info. It is a 30 second walk at most from our office to theirs. Before they walk over though they will walk back to get their car and drive to the aquatics parking lot. What is the reasoning behind this? I just don't see how this makes more sense than walking the distance.

:bravonew: One of the coaches here is just like that. He will come into the office and want to know how to put a 2 page document on 1 page, back and front. Instead of taking the time to go to the copier and read the instructions on how to do this, he will want someone to stop what they are doing and help him. Pisses me right the f' off!

You know, I've noticed something similar when you go to Wal-Mart for example. I just park in the first available spot I can find. If I find a spot close than that's fine, but usually the first one I see is the one I take. Other people will drive around and around to find one as close as possible. By the time they finally pull into their spot 5 feet from the door, I'm already in the frickin store before they even get their ass out of their car. But contrats....you got a great parking spot.

I can't stand that either Babyblues. Even worse is when you are stuck behind somone for a couple minutes who decided to wait for the person that just got to the car with the stuff they bought.

That is the worst. And they always wait in the middle of the aisle so that no one can go around them. I guess I can understand if you're disabled or old or something, but it usually ends up being some middle aged couple driving a Cadillac.

Don't even get me started on the parking bullshit! I see people drive up and park in the handicap spot, whip out their handicap parking pass and hang it on the mirror, then get out and walk without a problem. Maybe they usually carry a handicapped person around but if you don't need the spot, why use it? Leave it for someone that really needs the shorter distance.

My rant (though not quite so similar to Shibby's) is NOT the fact that I have to walk around campus and it's hot, it's humid, it's a pain in the ass etc - my rant is the time factor...

Unlike your campus I probably lose at a minimum an hour a day just walking from class to class - not to mention having to park on the other side of the world if I don't get to school an hour before my first class starts - it's not the walking I hate - it's the fact that the walking eats into my time....

The worst part is that I have to schedule my classes around the fact that they're in different areas of the campus and if I only have 10minutes between classes I have to book it just to get to class before it starts......

I hate that! That is sooo lazy. I always park far away. For one, I don't want my doors dinged by the same people that have no consideration for anyone elses stuff - and for the fact that the exercise is good for me and my kids.

At the walmart in this little town, people always park on the yellow striped area at the front of the isle, just before the handicap spaces start. And no, these people are not handicap nor do they have handicap privliages.

Only problem is, if it's a short distance, your air doesn't have enough time to kick in before you get there. So, it's usually hotter in the car than it is outside. In my job I have to travel back and forth between different plants several times a day. Most of the plants are within a mile or so of each other and by the time I get to where I'm going, the air is just starting to work. So, I just roll the windows down instead. BB
