Question Is Marriage that hard?

Never would of thought these 2 would split...Kind of like John Travolta and Kelly...Is it that hard? I guess since I've been with her for so long, why get married It's only a paper and $100K spent, not to mention everything else as wellI could go just get the ring right?

I don't get it...What's so different?...When you're together for so long(not like they were anyways)and then you get married; later to divorce

Look at Goldie and Kurt; they never married.

Hollywood couple Witherspoon, Phillippe split

Reuters

Monday, October 30, 2006; 5:02 PM

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon and "Flags of Our Fathers" star Ryan Phillippe are separating after more than seven years of marriage, their representatives said on Monday.

"We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate," their publicists said in a joint statement. "They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."

A look at the famous faces making headlines in movies, music and more.

Witherspoon, 30, and Phillippe, 32, reportedly met at her 21st birthday party before working together on the 1999 film "Cruel Intentions." They married in June of that year and have two children, 7-year-old daughter Ava and 3-year-old son Deacon.

The publicists gave no additional details about the split but the celebrity Web site TMZ.com, which broke the story, reported that Witherspoon has contacted the divorce lawyer who represented Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Marie Presley.

TMZ quoted one unidentified source as saying the breakup was not triggered by any single event but rather by "cumulative" circumstances.

Witherspoon established herself as a major box-office draw as star of the 2001 comedy "Legally Blonde" and scored a follow-up hit with "Sweet Home Alabama."

She went on to win a best-actress Oscar earlier this year for her role as Johnny Cash's country-singing sweetheart June Carter in "Walk the Line."

Phillippe is currently starring in Clint Eastwood's latest film "Flags of Our Fathers" as Navy Corpsman John "Doc" Bradley, one of the U.S. servicemen who raised the Stars and Stripes on Iwo Jima's Mount Suribachi during World War Two.

I see reese as a very aggressive woman. I'm sure her career blowing up, she probably wanted him to stay home with the kids, but I think he wanted to start getting his career going again, and i'm sure it led to some fighting.

Hollywood is like another dimension...I would love to reap the benefits like they do, but I couldn't imagine the insanity of it all.

Don't even compare Hollywood marriages to those of the average American household. Don't try and say just cause so and so didn't get married and it worked fo them, why can't it work for us? You can try and get the answers from us all you want, but the one person you REALLY need to talk to is your gf. Rado...if you don't want to get married...don't. She on the other hand may want to get married and have children and if that is the case, you need to do some soul searching and decide whether or not that is what you want, because if it isn't then you need to let her go so she can have the life she wants and not the one you want.

Believe me...I never wanted to settle down and have kids, but now that I have done it...I wonder why I waited so long to do it. My son and my wife are my life and I wouldn't trade them for all the money in the world. Rado....if your girl is as great as you say she is...do whatever it takes to keep her and make her happy. If you are not willing to, someone else is. I just hope you figure out what it takes before someone else does.

100K?...I'm sorry I think that is just a bit outlandish. Even if you can afford it, that seems like too much of a spectacle or a Hollywood wedding. I think it could also be a way to say, "look how much money I have".

It is all about perspective I guess, but I feel fortunate that I've found someone who wants to be married, but doesn't want me to spend a lot of money (if any) on the ring or the wedding. However, I will confess that if those things were important or meaningful to her then I would supply it because I believe she is worth it and most girls dream about that day.

One other thing I forgot to mention...marriage can be hard when only one of you are putting in the effort. If you go into it with a half-ass attitude, like most of your threads, your half isn't going to work! A marriage isn't 50%/50%, it's 110%/110%.

Well it would be a nice wedding with that kind of money...So you would say that spending $120K for a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah is too much $$$?

This thread was simply to see what everyone else thought about it...I obviously don't think the way some of you may think I am...We've talked about it, and I'm not scared or apprehensive about it either...We're waiting until it's time; could be another year or whatever time it takes for the both of us to be ready, it will happen...She wants to wait and so do I...We're still young, she's busy with her new career and I'm always busy.

Now, you have some. Also, I agree with you that marriage is a state of mind not necessarily what a piece of paper says. The only difference is legal obligations which I think can be beneficial when kids are involved, one person makes the majority of sacrifices for the relationship, & it has been longer than 5 years or so...just my .02

We're very happy together; very much so. We want to wait to make it right and make it nice; one time, that's it. No one is perfect, no such thing as a bliss, but we're damn sure going to make it work before it starts.
