So I try to "go green"..

Went out and bought a bunch of Compact Fluorescent Lamps because of a show I had watched. They said, if everyone in America replaced just 1 of their regular bulbs with a Compact Fluorescent, the US would save HUGE amounts of energy. Don't remember the numbers but they were pretty crazy. I thought I would do the right thing and what the hell it will save me like $100 bucks over the course of a few years.

I get home and turn the fucking things on. I feel like I am in a fish tank with these fucking lights. What the hell man. I guess I can live with it but damn..

Those things have a lot of mercury in them, so they aren't really a big help to the environment. If you really want to get green and help yourself at the same time, get a solar power system.

I saw that show as well Bouncer. I was very concerned about the mercury issue because I knew that Florescent bulbs had it in them. So, I did a little digging on that subject and found that the mercury is not emitted from them when they are in use but, the problem comes in when they are thrown out after they burn out. If they go into a landfill, the mercury can seep into the ground when they are crushed. That was a very interesting program, and I too, have been trying to "go green" as much as possible.

On a funny note, Cheryl Crow suggested that everyone only be allowed I square of toilet tissue to wipe their asses with to save trees. Can you imagine how crusty her ass must be....LOL

The place I'm staying at now is "green" and nothing looks right - I walk outside and the world looks much clearer...

Green is the metaphor for environment friendly. Anything you do that is into energy conservation and helping to lower carbon into the environment is considered "green." Seems everyone is into it now that global warming is such a bigger issue these days.

I know that's what green means - but they're saying things look weird. Everything in my house looks normal. :hmmm:

I think what they mean is that when you first change over to this type of bulb, you may not be use to the brightness of the light it casts. They tend to be a little brighter than conventional bulbs. You really need to get a much lower wattage than a regular bulb. They usually have the conversion on the package when you buy them. Like 40W florescent = 60W conventional or something like that. The eye to brain link usually gets use to them in no time.

Much lower - a 40 watt bulb is only like 8 watts in the fluorescent. I don't see a difference though - just takes a second to come on.

Ok, I know what I did. The Fluorescent bulbs I bought were labeled "Daytime" they had a color temp of 6500k. They looked more like fish tank lights then daytime light. Anyway, took them back and bought the normal Fluorescent bulbs. They look the same as my old normal bulbs. Good to go. Plus they have a 9 year warranty.

On the package of mine, the 24w fluorescent = 100w normal bulbs. the 14w fluorescent = 60w normal bulb

mine come on just as fast as the regular bulbs and are the same brightness.

Did you have to find land for a land fill or anything like that? Are you doing heavy metals also? Market is really up for that right now.

no metals. right now it is just universal waste. basic and easy if this works i will go after more accounts them i might try to get into hazardous waste. i have a DOT approved recycling container for all universal products and it is shipped to a recycling plant in minnesota. its pretty easy and it should bring in about 4k a month with me only workin 3-4 days a month. of coarse this is all just a guestimate right now untill the contract is finnished and i do it. the market is huge right now with the new cali laws people dont even know they have to recycle most things. lil mom and pop places wont care to much untill they get busted but big companys will listen and a few already know.

Unfortunately, not all areas of the country have mandatory recycling laws, so it is pretty much up to the consumer to do their part. There are many areas here in Louisiana that have not gotten back to regular recycling since Katrina.
