daily driver of monster trucks?

I've had a lifted 98 Tahoe that I loved driving but after having a kid, it got hard putting him in and strapping him down. Now I'm kinda missing the lifted truck thing and was wondering if anyone drives one. I've got my eye on a 2000 diesel ford f-350. Anyone with any experience with driving one? Diesel? What's the worst thing about driving a diesel?

My boss has a F250 on I think 35's maybe 37's that we use everyday for work. We pull a lawn trailer with it. Its not diesel. I don't ever drive it, but some things I have noticed sitting in the passenger seat are, mileage sucks, and that it always seems like you are gonna hit somebody in front if you cause you can't really see them once you get close. Also the turning radius sucks, don't know if that is standard superduty or because it is lifted. I just noticed you are in Tampa, I live in Dunedin. I was getting ready to say how all these big trucks down here is a huge fad, but obviously you know.

Oh and as far as what the above truck is worth, my boss paid 22,500 for an 05 superduty crew cab(or whatever you call the one with full 4 doors), with the 5.4 engine, on 35's or 37's with around 20,000 miles. I think that was close to the mileage, I know it wasn't higher than that.

It really depends on the mileage to how much the truck is worth. All the "show" is nice but I've seen some of the nicest trucks on the outside and people paid so much money for, but they are always fixing it and can't drive it.

As for a diesel, I have rode in a couple of them. I noticed they both had a lot of engine noise inside the cab. I'm sure the older you get the worse it is. But it was difficult to hear the radio and talk on a phone.

Diesel is far better then gas on trucks. They last longer, better fuel mileage compared to gas in the same truck, stronger etc..

My stepdad has a landscaping company. He had a 92 ford F-250 Diesel and a 94 F-350 Diesel. Both of them had over 400,000 miles (driving back and forth on the jersey turnpike). They really didn't need any work. Just basic tune ups, belts, etc..

The sound of the diesel engine is definitely something I loved. Pure power. I am not much of a truck guy but I wouldn't mind having a big F-450 Diesel. Not into the jacked up tire stuff though, to hillbilly for me.

yes i agree diesel is way better buit! you can add tons of power for a few bucks and the motor can take what ever you throw at it! and it will run forever.
the only down side in my opinion is the noise it makes. it would get old real fast.

that is a plus in my book. i remember driving the F-350 around the job sites when i was like 15. that fucker sounded like a Semi.

I will clarify that the trucks I saw that looked nice but had lots of problems were not diesel, that I can remember anyways.

I have had over 15 Diesel truck's. mainly for my construction company.
the last one was 2007 F250 crew W/ 49' in . It sucked, looked cool but one big pain in the ass. The tires weighed over 300 pounds. always something to go wrong. Diesel motors are so pourly made these days. yes lots' of power for towing. But the price of the motor cost $7000.00 new. Thats a lot of gasoline you can buy. IMO diesel are only good for one thing lot's of heavy work everyday. but very expensive to fix. and fuel miles aren't thay good. They are desiged to be used not a soccer moms truck. Be carful of buying used. Every time I trade-in a truck is because I had nothing but problems. be carfull not to buy someone else shit.

My concern is oil changes and maintenance on diesels are twice a much as regular engines. I had problems with my lifted Tahoe...it seemed to never track true..it always seemed to pull to one side, and turning around was almost impossible in a tight place. I love the look, but the headaches are a problem.

do you think the quality has gone down over the years? we never had problems with our Ford Diesels. they pulled trailers with heavy riding mowers 5 days a week.

Yes big time. The older models had less computer controls and they kept the design simple.The EPA has changed the requirements for emmissions makeing it harder for large trucks to run clean and at the same time cary big loads. And the american auto makers are trying to compete with horse power not longevity.

The average cost on a oil-change in my area is $85.00 on sale and thats 5000 miles per change. If you take the cost of the engine and add all the oil changes and schedule matanince it would take over 80,000 mile's to be in the black vs a gasoline engine.

I all depends on what you are going to be useing it for. Or have alot of money piss away, then who cares buy what you like.

Full-size trucks in general are damn expensive - diesel or not. Crappy gas mileage, more oil, sometimes more expensive oil, expensive tires, less life in tires, etc etc etc - damn them!

Slap two turbos on it, propane injection and nitrous injection and you'll be ready to do some major hauling. Not to mention you can rebuild a diesel a ton of times to where they can reach up to a million miles. Diesel is bad ass if you can stand the noise. The boost whistle is awesome though.
