So I started at a new gym today

I'm actually going to spend a week or so at one gym and the same at another, both are about equidistant from home and work. One is real old school, the sign over the door says barbell club and its in an old WWII hut that is one of many on a site and was originally made for Canadian troops to stay in.

Its probably about 2500 sq ft but it has everything, the olympic barbells are the old skinny type and the plates are rusty, its quire crowded but there are competitive powerlifters and bodybuilders there.

The other is a bit more spacious set in the basement of a run down shopping centre. It also has good equipment but not quite the same serious feel although still people that seem into training.

I went to the first one this evening, met the owner, he's like 6ft 4 and 330lb, not fat. Its as cheap as hell. People are a bit weary of a new face but one I start training its cool and by the time I leave people are saying se ya later bruv..cool.

I feel really excited and for the first time in a while I had a protien mix straight after my workout before I got in my car. Now I want to eat up since for some reason I felt a bit weaker on bench than normal (probably all the rust = extrat weight lol)

The guy that manages the gym was talking to me today. He said his bodybuilding carrear was hit and miss until he trained with Dorian Yates one time at Temple gym in Birmingham way back. They trained back and Dorian completely corrected his form, apparently Dorian was doing bent over rows with 4 1/2 plates a side with no body movement.

Apparently one of Dorians sayings about performing your set is that when your fighting the weight trying to keep good form, its like trying to keep your head above water when somebody is pushing it under the surface, you have to dig deep and fight.

Cool

yeah I think I'm stopping put, the place has an aura, even the small guys are moving good weightsn and I've only seen one woman there (no offence ladies) this week, and she was serious with a deep voice. No slapers in pink velour tracksuits and orange tans if you know what I mean.

The manager is a really genuine guy and passionate about what he does, when he was talking too me my heart kind of sank for a while because when I see somebody that keen and worry for them that they might be sacrificing too much in persuit where only the chosen few get rich. But I came away in awe of him following his dreams with so much heart and wondered what the fuck happened to my intended bodybuilding carear after my last competition at like 19 years old.

I feel at home there for the first time in like 11 years of gyms. The owners replace equipment when they get the money but the place has remained largely unchanged since day one, when you finish on a station you have to be careful not to bang into another its so tight in there but people get on and I reckon it helps having a manager that fricken huge
