i do understand what you are saying. i do however feel that respect for that position is optional. he may outrank all military personal because our law says so. but that dosent mean i have to give him more respect then Generals and even the lowest ranking soldiers. i feel respect is earned no matter who you are.

I really don't, honestly. Of course I've heard/seen Bush jokes, but I just don't think they are funny. I don't think anyone has to like him (or whoever holds the title), but I have always shown respect for whomever is in office. I'm not vocal like BB, but personally speaking, I do think it's incredibly disrespectful.

My position is that the President has my respect the day he assumes office. After that day, he will either go down or up in my opinion depending on what he does. And Bush has done so much damage to America domestically and internationally that I frankly don't have much respect for him. And when Jan 20, 2009 rolls around, the new President, whoever she may be () will have my complete and total respect but starting that day, it is what she does that will dictate if she remains worthy of my respect or not.

babyblues, i think you would have to agree though. one thing that makes this country great is the fact that people can do and say what they want to a certain degree. that old saying kinda works here, "I may disagree with what you say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it." Rado does have a right to say it. As dumb as he may sound, I dont think you want to live in a country that prevents people from saying anything.

That's most of your problem. You actually can't argue/debate/conversate with anyone without resorting to this kind of thing. I don't expect you to agree, but I do expect that you can at least explain your position. If you can't, than why do you even have one? my feelings exactly. i respect this country and i respect the position of president. i do not however respect the man that is filling that position right now.
