I wouldnt really call 3 different winners a year competition. I'd say that's the teams with the most money to spend flat out dominating everyone else due to the lack of restrictions put on car setup. Basically in F1, 90% of the drivers don't have a chance because the cars determine the outcome and not the drivers.

same for nascar. big names and big companys almost always win.

i really dont care either way. i respect the drivers of both, they can all do things with a car that i cant even dream of.

True they are all very skillful drivers. Just as a reference I did some research. During the 2007 F1 season there were 4 different winners throughout the entire season. During the 2007 NASCAR season there were 17 different winners. Sure there are big names and guys who win a lot of races. That's just like any sport. But its because they are good. The restrictions NASCAR sets on car setup makes sure that it is a driver's race and not who can spend the most money on their car.

Car setup plays a role in any race. It does NOT determine a winner. I beat a 911 around a Watkins Glen once in a 1998 M3 with nothing but an intake and ASC delete. A 996, not 997. Which car would you think is 'better'? It has so much to do with the driver in F1. I really think you're missing that because of a bias.

It is actually a well known fact that Formula One doesnt have near as many restrictions on car setup as NASCAR. Stock cars have very strict guidelines they have to obide by. Formula One's restrictions are far less strict, giving the teams that can spend the most money a distinct advantage. There are like 30 or 40 F1 drivers and only 4 different guys have the ability to win? You can't really expect me to believe that. I guaruntee you if an unknown F1 driver switched cars with Fernando Alonso for a few races he would be winning.

Now I am not saying that the drivers who win aren't good, or even that they aren't better than others. But they wouldn't win near as many races if all cars were created equal. Unfortounately in F1, all cars are not created equal.

In your situation you probably came up against an inferior driver. This is common in everyday situations but in F1, they are all professionals. Every F1 driver is super talented. I struggle to believe that 4 guys are so much better than everyone else that they win every single time.

I guess we should just agree to disagree. All I know is I have fallen asleep every time I have tried to watch open wheel racing. All that single file stuff, and they are spaced out by 50-100 feet at the least.

Here is a quote from Juan Pablo Montoya. He was a very respected and succesful driver in Formula One and now drives on the NASCAR circuit. Bear in mind that this dude was rich as fuck. He did not come to NASCAR for the money. Here he describes a Formula One race....

"In a normal race, the guy that is fourth is going to pull away from you and the guy that is sixth is going to pull in behind you. And you're going to pound around for 60 laps by yourself."

Doesnt sound like competition to me.

I'm not saying it is common. I am simply saying that what you are saying is not always accurate. It doesn't matter though. We watch racing for different reasons.

Oh, and no in my case it wasn't just one Porsche 911, it was multiple. I just know how to get the most out of a good car. Thats why it became known as the Purple Porsche Eater.

Thats pretty much it. I basically see NASCAR as more about the competition and F1 as purely about the driving.

Basically to me at least...

NASCAR = Driver vs. Driver
F1 = Driver vs. Track
