yeah I heard about it yesterday. Its really sad that when someone luike that goes wacko, they choose to take other people with them

Sadly enough, I heard about it, but these things have become so frequent that I think most people see the headline and say to themself "oh my, that's so terrible" and then move on.

i saw it and was pissed off about it. Its been happening lately where psychos or people of these sorts go on rampages. Didnt some lady or girl also go on a similar rampage like this, this week.

I find it sad that it has become so frequent we dismiss it like a hurricane in the southeast during hurricane season.

it really only happens in America.

sure there have been rare school shootings in other countries but this is in large part an American thing. IMO, it has to do with our freedom and how much time kids have to do nothing and just dwell and think. bad things happen when you have to much time to just do nothing.

I think Coach Knight said something last week that is very true "Kids haven't changed, parents have changed".

My friend and I talked about this at dinner tonight. He seems somewhat preoccupied with the idea that something like that could, rather has, happen here. I think it has less to do with having free time, parentying, etc. and more to do with general mentality of American society. It is so ingrained in our society to win, or be the best. That if you work hard enough you will always succeed. Its a very sad falsehood. Many people don't succeed, and then they have nothing but feelings of failure. And its not their fault they don't succeed. Its just, you need someone to work at McDonalds and you need someone to be CEO of Google. We're obsessed with the most obscure things in this country and education, for the pure enjoyment of education is not one of them. Neither is relaxation, in terms you see in Europe. When you are constantly obsessed with something that not everyone can achieve...I believe it is nothing but a boiling pot for bad things.

I agree with most of that. The simple fact that a family can barely make it these days on a dual income makes life even harder and has a lot more pressure.

the things kids have access too have changed and that has a big influence.

That is definitely true but the things kids are willing and not willing to do has really changed. As people we make our choices based on consequences. Ultimately we worry about how it will effect our loved ones and what would disappoint them. When these kids don't feel that their parents, guardian, significant other... is significant enough, someone has failed them. Failed them by not teaching them that a single event or person shouldn't negate everything that anyone else that cares about them means.
