I fought the law (again) and the law won...sorta.
I got a parking ticket for parking outside the lines and fought it.
I tried explaining how I am meticulous about my vehicle. Of course she said she was the same way. I proceeded to explain to her my parking habits and other traits associated with car ownership. She continued to say she understood, which was clearly bull. Thus we came to a stalemate and she said that if I didn't like the rules on campus that I could take my business elsewhere. I told her fine, I will return the pass and take a refund for the rest of the semester. She said they don't normally do that, but 'just for me' she would. She offered me 80 bucks, but still wants me to pay the ticket. I think I'm going to go to the Dean of Students. I, apparently, have nothing better to do... |

Well am not sure that you can walk away now since you have thrown the gauntlet. You might be able to but you will have to eat a lot of humble pie and that is not high in protein

Its the principal of the situation. The supervisor instantly wanted to put me on the defensive.

No, the school takes itself far too seriously and our student body has no ability to alter any rule or regulation. THAT is why I am fed up with this college. Who the fuck cares if someone parks on the line in a end spot? Really, why does it matter?

I pretty much stay out of GC these days but YOU broke the rules you tool - rules are rules - follow them or pay the ticket - it's fairly simple - move on and grow up........

i agree with your point. it is a stupid rule. but it is a rule none the less. i could say the same thing about some laws. why the fuck do the feds care if i want to use steroids for personal use? why does it matter? it cant be for safety concerns because its not illegal for people to smoke.

Honestly, I think YOU take yourself too seriously. You seem to have this attitude that you can just "do as you please" in life. It just doesn't work that way.

The word discretion comes into play in an important way actually. Laws are there for a reason, usually because people go too far with things. aka, if there weren't rules about parking between lines, some people would take up 3 spaces. A good reason for the rule. To protect other people from some peoples arrogance. In my case, I go out of my way to do the opposite. I park in the furthest spot in the furthest parking lot of my dorm. Near NO other car. I do not enjoy lugging groceries, bags, etc all the way out to my car. I do it however, I go to pain stacking lengths to protect my car from the disrespect of others. By parking on the line, I am get an extra sense of security and but it is in no way hindering another spot. Maybe it doesn't mean anything, but it makes me feel better. If I were to do 'whatever I wanted' I would park completely within the marked off area at the end of the lot. That is to say, theses things are just the straw that continues to fire my anger towards this university. You wouldn't know that our student government isn't recognized by the rest of the Big 10 because it is controlled by the administration, giving it no power. That is alright though. I should have stayed at USC. I absolutely loath this place. |

I wouldn't call it that attitude at all. The government, or in this case a school, over steps it boundaries. NOT JUST IN THIS CIRCUMSTANCE. I'll ask you the same thing I asked the supervisor. So, you're telling me you've never done anything that has broken a rule, law, or regulation?
Sure I have, and I've also had to pay the consequences of breaking those rules or laws. Just as you have had to do. You can disagree with that statement I made about boundaries, but because you do DOES NOT mean that I do whatever I please. Seeing as how you don't really know all too much about the overall situation I think it is somewhat arrogant of you to say something like that. I am anything but arrogant. You're right, I don't know all that much about you - just what you "give" of yourself here and that is the attitude you put off. Obviously I am not alone in my thinking. ![]() The word discretion comes into play in an important way actually. But if you were far away from all the cars - why not just park IN the lines? After all, that's why there are lines and not just open space. I should have stayed at USC. I absolutely loath this place. It's a privilege to go there, not a right - nor is it mandatory. If you hate it that much - why don't you go elsewhere?

I'll give you the same advice I give all young people.
Write it all down now, because when you get older, you may not know everything anymore. If it's written down, you'll have a reference for your future decisions.

You left USC (as in Southern California?) to go to Penn State? What is your major if you don't mind my asking? I don't mean to offend any Penn State alums on this board, but I can't think of a single major in my sphere of experience (science and engineering) other than maybe Mechanical Engineering that I would do that for.
