Fuck Vista, went back to XP.

So yesterday I am reading about the release of XP Service Pack 3. While I am reading the article my vista machine freezes. lol. If that isn't a sign, I don't know what is. I have been having little issues over the past few weeks with vista. Firefox would stop responding, certain sites would freeze using both firefox an IE 7, computer would blue screen while it was on battery power etc..

Yesterday I decided to get the old XP install disk that came with sana's old computer from 2002 or 2003. Had to boot from the cd drive because vista wouldn't let me install and older operating system just by inserting the cd. So I installed XP, downloaded service pack 2 and then service pack 3, updated all the drivers etc.. and now it is running like butter. No freezes at all, much faster, and just much more stable. When I had to register the product key I just typed in the key from the back of sana's old computer and it worked, that surprised me. I was expecting it to say, "key already registered" or something like that.

One other factor that pushed me to go back to vista is that I was reading an article about windows 7 coming out as early as next year. Thats the next windows operating system. Basically, Vista is like Windows Millennium Edition, just a piece of shit to hold us over until the the better operating system arrives.

They pulled the XP SP3 upgrade at the last minute. Too many issues.

The only issue is if you are running Dynamics Retail Management System POS (Point of Sale) or (Piece of Shit) whichever you choose. lol.

i dont have that on my system and neither do most people. SP3 is not pulled, its just blocked from windows update.

Honestly, Microsoft doesn't have the time or inclination to monitor how many PC's you have running a certain copy of Windows. I have a cope of XP Professional that is on at least 3 computers. Only when the number of computers becomes extreme do they do anyhting about it.

As for your Vista issues, I have had some of my own, but the have been small. Maybe you trouble has something to do with Dell's version of Vista.

I agree with newbechris B, My new computer came with the vista premium and not once I had a problem with it and my girlfriend is constantly on it with four or five different programs running at the same time(like Photo shop, quick books, internet explorer, itunes or windows media player at the same time)

No, but they do keep track of how many times a product key code is used. I used one several times when I kept rebuilding a machine & finally got the message that I'd exceeded the available number of uses for that code...please call Microsoft.

Another neat thing I found was a program that could scan your registry and give you the product key codes for all of your Microsoft products. That is helpful if you no longer have the cd or case in which a product distributed.

How many times did you rebuild it? Like I said mine is on at least 3 pc's and I have reinstalled it several times. Honestly, they aren't all that concerned with people like us.

I agree w/what you're saying. I realize we're the little fish, but it did happen to me. Also, mine wasn't the operating system. It was while I was trying to reinstall Office. I'm guessing it was the 10th time or so that I'd used it.

newbiechris, its not about microsoft not caring about the little fish. they dont have a guy monitoring registration keys that simply dosent have the time. it is a set limit, i believe 5 times and then you are out. microsoft dosent have to monitor it at all, you get to your limit and you are blocked.

what i am saying though is that i used a key off a completely different computer and a different brand at that. just surprised me that it allowed it.

So, was it a rescue disk or a retail version of windows...?

its was a reinstallation disk of windows xp for a gateway computer. same as a basic windows xp disk. installed on my dell no problem.

I have experienced some temper mental moments with Vista but for the most part I find its more of thinking of VISTA as a totally different kind of machine. I use my XP systems when I think they will work best and I use my Vista systems where they work best. It is difficult to put up with the triggers that create instability in 1 system that don't in the other but Vista will be what we will all be using over the next few years. XP is going to go the way of windows 98 and that is a clear fact. In my office I am the one that is taking on Vista to master but I do have to keep XP systems on line.

By the way I will assume you have installed service pac 1 it did make some noticeable changes especially with using peripherals a lot friendlier. Remember even XP didn't come to life till after service pac 2

not true. windows 7 is coming out in the next 2 years. supposedly that will be what vista was supposed to be. XP will be supported by Microsoft until 2014. by supported i mean security patches, updates etc via windows update. only then will xp go the way of 98 or any of the other older OS. XP has the largest install base in the country both buisness and consumer. products will continue to be released that support XP for a long time to come. believe it or not vista will most likely die off before xp does. most people will jump from XP to Windows 7.

if you want your system to run faster i would suggest getting more memory from crucial.com in the mean time right click on my computer > properties > advanced > performance settings. select "adjust for best performance" then select apply and restart your computer. it wont look to great but your system will be much faster. you can change the settings back once you add memory.

yea B is right My lap top has 3 gigs. 1 gig will not make it user friendly at all. that is the bare minimum.

it is what vista was supposed to be.

basically, vista was supposed to be a 100 floor building. they started building it and by the time they got to the 50th floor it was crumbling under its own weight. Microsoft tore it down and built a 25 floor building and sold it as vista.

windows 7 is supposed to be the true 100 floor building.

I've had my laptop for about 6 months now, and only had a few minor hiccups that haven't really bothered me. But lately, it seems to always freeze up, or I can't click on links, or open pictures/windows, stuff like that. It's really getting annoying.
