My home theatre system is finally here

50" Panasonic Viera TH50PZ80 Plasma TV
NAD T765 A/V receiver
Bowers & Wilkins 684 front tower speakers
Bowers & Wilkins ASW610 subwoofer
Bowers & Wilkins HTM61 center channel speaker
Bowers & Wilkins DM 686 rear channel speakers
Panamax M4300PM power conditioner

Waiting on a PS3 to double as a Blu-ray player until the price drops on the dedicated Blu-ray players in the fall. Also waiting on a new high-end HD Satellite box with DVR that will be coming out this summer....using digital cable now.

I'm blown away by the picture, but even moreso by the sound. Have some digital music going to 'warm up' and break in the speakers, and it sounds unreal. Can't remember the last time I felt this happy!

Great system bro, B&W speakers are absolutely top notch. Most of the recording industry uses B&W to listen and edit their music.

few suggestions. if at all possible, take the center channel off the top of the tv and put it in front of the tv. This will give you a much better sound image and clear dialog.

also, try moving the sub into that right corner instead of the left side. May give you much deeper base there. You really have to play around with sub placement.

and for hells sake, you spent all that money on great gear, hide the fucking wires!!

You like looking at Hillary? Shit i know Canadian bitches are ugly but c'mon. Hillary looks like an old Ellen Degeneres

How does it sound? I think you will need to upgrade or add a real sub unless its powered. I have the Bose system. Not bad. I think my bro has a similar setup. Its good not great?

Hes right hide the cables eh?

B&W is a audiophile-quality speaker company. Can't go too wrong with that choice. Bose shouldn't even be in the same thread as B&W....lol....

Bouncer...tidying up the wires is definately on the 'to do' list....was just a hurry to get it hooked up and running today. The plan is for the center to be under the TV eventually, but what you see now is a temporary TV stand and a temporary placement for that center speaker as a result...the plan is to have a large custom unit crafted when that room gets redone (carpet out, hardwood floors in) next year. Bass isn't an issue where subwoofer is now...it's full and deep. The room's an L-shape, and this is set up in the small part of the L...so the bass has surfaces to thump on.

Lurking, reading and posting only when necessary and refraining from posting angry rants in random threads that make one come across as uncouth and illiterate.

your talking a good bit of money.

plus, the true area where B&W shines is music. sure they will do home theater great but music is their specialty.

DNA, the speakers are by far the most important component in your stereo system. If you have $2000 to spend, I would spend at least 50% on the speakers and the rest on the other components.

There are many companies that design and manufacture phenomenal speakers. American and British companies are very strong in this area, so it is nice to be able to buy Made in USA speakers, knowing that you are rewarding fine craftsmen in this country. Of course B&W are made in UK and they are very good as well.

go to an specialty hi-fi stereo store in your area, i.e. not Best Buy or Circuit City. Give a listen to the speakers there. Other brands that are in my opinion exceptional are Vandersteen, Martin Logan, Paradigm, Thiel, Magnepan, NHT, etc. Most of the ones I have mentioned are made in the US or Canada.

Plus, many of these are works of art. It's like having a sculpture in your room. Look at these Martin Logans - these are the ones I lust after!

Good lord those are nice.

I am trying to get a whole new entertainment system for my basement...

i want a 60" HD TV and a home theater system will 'literally' rock the house

I have seen this Yamaha system at Best Buy for $700, total of 1500watts and i was like. Now that i am reading up information about home theaters i am really thinking about going all out and telling my parents its worth $4,000

The only "consumer mass market" brand I would even consider would be Denon - they have some reasonable A/V receivers. For that price however, you can get Rotel or NAD, so why settle for anything less? Or you can step up and get a B&K - the AVR507 at the bottom of this link. Pretty sweet, made in New York.

B&K Components: High End Audio Equipment Manufacturer : Home Theatre
