Looking at getting a scooter

Anyone have any expierence with these? It seems there are a lot of bad reviews for Baja's. I am looking for something with at least a top speed of 50mph while I ride it. I kind of want to find a used one that is one or two years old so I can keep the cost under $2k. I have been looking at craigs list and it seems like if I keep looking I will find a good deal.

Scrumhalf will become famous soon enough
Why don't you get a 250cc or 500cc motorcycle instead? You should be able to get a used enduro for well under 2K or the Kawasaki EX500 or Ninja 250... I kinda like going the enduro route because they are so rugged and you are not worrying about any plastic getting damaged.

Or a Honda Nighthawk 250.... I think it is called the CB250... I learned to ride on one of these and it is very rugged and light - very good for city use.

It's what we decided to get since we don't want to get tied into a car until a little after my wife starts working. The scooter seemed like it was the lowest cost to buy and use with it being fairly new, so I don't have to worry about maintenance. I would like to get more of a real bike like Scrum is talking about, but it seems that the ones in my price range are getting a little on the old side and that concerns me a bit. Not sure how old is getting to old. I know having a 100 miles on a bike is like having 1k on a car...

id try to find a used bike. you could probably get a relatively new kaw 250 sport bike for 2 - 2500. btw i own and have owned several bikes, and maintenance is next to nothin. also have never heard of your mileage formula.

My buddy had bikes and he said they should be serviced about every 300 miles. Does that sound normal?

bigscott is on a distinguished road
break in period for a new bike is usually 500 miles -- then just get oil change every 1000 miles --

maybe that's what he said and I confused myself. That a bike should be serviced every 1k miles where a car is about 3k. He said something like a 3:1 and I didn't really get what he was saying until now.
