So, my severance package arrived last week...

And i will have to say- I'm SO relieved. In addition to the month I've been sitting home and getting paid for, they are paying me 2 weeks for every year I was there. I was there 5 years, and I had 3 weeks of vacation that I hadn't used, and I will be paid that as well. Most surprisingly, they are also paying my benefits for FREE until October 1st.

I have a couple irons in the fire, and actually would like some opinions. My top choice is to become a Recruiting Manager for an international recruiting firm. This also has the promise of becoming the Division Manager 3-6 months down the road; assuming I kick some ass. Second choice is a Financial Advisor for Edward Jones. And, my 3rd choice is for another mortgage company. I basically told him that I would take the job. And this was prior to me finding these other opportunities. What's the most professional way to handle this? I don't want to burn a bridge, but it's just not a good choice for me. They offer minimal benefits, and most of all- with all of the uncertainty with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac right now, I think I need to get out of the business.

What's going on with the implant? Has it been enough time yet to tell since you mentioned it?

When I think of burning bridges, I think about trying to leave one job for another & after accepting a position, then you change your mind & stay with the old job.

In this case, I don't see it as going back on your word. You were looking at other opportunities came up before you signed anything. I think you should just tell them that you're uncomfortable with the industry & some better opportunities have come along.

Based on what you've said, it sounds like the International gig may be the best fit. I believe you mentioned previously that the financial adviser job takes time to build clients and build people under you. In this economy, many people may not have the means to be concerned about investments and retirement.

I'm betting you kick ass in the international gig & get that next level in short time. Best of luck.

Thanks...I really appreciate your input. For awhile there it was really a toss up between the recruiting job and the financial advisor. But, with the economy being in the toilet completely, I just don't see a lot of people being ready to put away MORE money into stocks & bonds. People have lost enough as it is- myself included. I haven't been offered the recruiting job just yet, but my 2nd interview is tomorrow, and my final one will be next week w/ my potential new boss' boss. The job is just very similar in structure to what I came from, and great potential to make a really great living. Not as much as our friend Rado- BAAHHH, but definitely six figures.

Well,we did another round of artifical inseminations this month. Last month didn't work. I went in Saturday for the first, and did the 2nd yesterday...I'm assuming that's what you're talking about. I actually had 2 eggs this time around, so keep your fingers crossed!

Ironic though that now is probably a good time to be investing for the long term. You can't convince people to purchase, but things will rebound. The public is always in the market at the wrong time. In general, the public buys at highs & sells at lows. Paying the bills has to come first, but now is probably a great time to be accumulating and dollar cost averaging in a portfolio.

Oh, I've watched LOW dwindle from 36 to 18 in a 401K, so I'm stuck w/it for another 5 years or so before I can move it to mutual funds.

That is what I was talking. So you have to wait a couple more weeks now to find out this time?

Yep. 18 days from yesterday. However, one of the 2 injectables I was taking was HCG. So even if I'm late I can't take a test until then. And I just got that on Saturday.

He is a recruiter for their finance section in my area. It is a great job for him because he knows a lot of people in the area and he makes a great living because he has a solid reputation. I don't know what his benefits or anything are like, but he has said he is very happy. I have been utilizing them as well. Good company with a rather solid reputation.

Out of the three, I'd say the mortgage market is gonna be skitty for another year yet. Financial advisor, tough one, what are you going to tell them LOL! even the bank isn't a safe place for their money any more! The recruitment one sounds good but will probably involve mucho hours.

Don't feel bad about accepting one job in principle and then accepting another, everyone would do that and they will understand

Job number one for sure. My sister is National Recruiting Manager for Deloitte in Toronto, and business is still brisk. She gets calls from headhunters throwing money at her all the time.

Have you tried eHealthinsurance.com? I did a quote estimate like the week after I was let go, and it was about $185 for my husband and I through United Healthcare. COBRA is absolutely outrageous. Check it out. I will guess it will be less than COBRA

Also, if you are pretty sure you are getting a severance, they may include benefits for you as they did for me.
