Any Personal Trainers here?
If so, I am serious considering becoming a personal trainer. I just love the sport of bodybuilding, love the gym, helping people reach fitness goals (so far just friends), and just gaining knowledge about fitness and nutrition. It's ok to be bias, but, what organization are you certified with? Provide any Pros and Cons if applicable...
Thanks, Lilmyth |

Gotta be decent at sales. Most gyms even have quotas but even those that don't, you still need to be able to get clients or you won't make any money. Secondly, alot of people don't want to put the effort in and can get you feeling depressed about it all. Got to keep your personal focus no matter how much being around there sorry attitudes bring you down.

I'm a certified fitness trainer through the ISSA(International Sports Sciences Association), their curriculum is pretty good but if you want something better go to www.nsca.com
under "Resources" click on certification.....

myth..i did some personal training before and really enjoyed it...if u love fitness, helping others an teaching its a good job...BUT i would not make it a full time job unless u are in a good market.. like i live it Pittsburgh Pa..blue collar town...the ppl are not going to spend an dont have the money as ppl would in other parts of the US.. I got a buddy that makes his living personal traning in South Beach...if u live somewhere like that where ppl got money and its nice weather id say try it out

Thanks all...
I live in Northern VA.. People here spend money just to be elite... Many are truly into fitness. I'm not interested in getting rich by it. I do have a fairly good paying job now... Just love to be around it and I just see so many opportunities now.... Again, thankx for the feedback... |

As pudgy said, www.nasm.org --- Their OPT model cert if considered top notch right now. Ptonthenet.com has an alliance with them. There is money to be made in personal training. I am from central jersey, starte my own in-home personal training company a couple of months ago, and make more money than most people coming outta college. Depending on the clientele up here, $50- $90 is not unheard of.
Just understand there is more to personal training than you think. Sales are involved. There is also funtional training vs bosybuilding training. People are gonna have some serious problems, and they will expect you to be able to help. Your education must always continue. Read an article everyday, read books. Books on traninig, on sales, on nutrition. You also need to know your clients if your going out on your own. There are some affluent areas up here where i can charge $90 per session. If i charged 50, they would consider me cheap, which psychology these people see as shitty. At the same time, there are other areas where $90 per would put me outta the range of most peoples money. Not trying to discourage you bro. I love what i do. And if you do as well, you can be well of for yourselfq Last edited by alwaysgrowing : 09-26-03 at 05:18 AM. |
