The best thing you can do is reduce your body fat if you want your abs to show.

well when you do abs, do weighted excersises they need to be trained just like your arms. example do like weightes roman chairs, weighted crunches, weighted cable crunches. you will feel like puking during these excerses though. try to get 10-12 sets of abs, but id train them once a week. Also diet plays a major role, get more calories in, if ur skinny u wont get fat if u keep it clean. ull just add on muscle mass

i could be wrong but in my opinion, notorious isnt correct. abs are a fast twitch muscle and react best to exercises such as classic crunches and hanging leg raises. if weighted excersises work best for you then by all means, go for it, but in my experience, fast paced excersises are the best for bringing out good definition. as for diet, there are a few things you should focus on. the first, and easiest thing you should do is drink lots and lots of water, only water, all day, everyday. aim for 1-2 gallons or more if you can manage. this will help flush excess fats from your system before they have a chance to be stored. second, make sure you keep you motabolism running and burning calories all the time. the best way to do this is to consume slow burning carbs every 2-3 hours. the best choices are foods such as oatmeal, yams, browm rice, etc. also make sure you eat protien often as this will slow digestion and and keep you motabolism running longer. if your really determined, its a good idea to add some cardio to your day. the best time is first thing in the morning, before you eat anything. this will assure that you are actually burning fat and not just calories in your gut. another good idea is to drink a couple mugs of coffee. coffee works very well in a cutting diet for several reasons. one being that it speeds up your motabolism, meaning you burn more calories and it also is a stimulant so you should be less hungry. hope this info helps, good luck

i agree with notorious... your abs ARE a fast twitch muscle fiber which does mean THEY REACT TO RESISTANCE(weighted exercises). Jordan, your abs aren't a "special" muscle that react to "fast paced exercises". You wouldn't do 100reps of dumbell curls with 2lbs for your biceps would you?...

im just saying what has been the most effective for me. i always used to do weighted exercises, but saw little results. now, i do about 10 minutes of abs after every workout, using only crunches and hanging leg raises, and my abs are developing much nicer than before. true, i wouldnt use this for biceps, but thats because i want big biceps, not small, chisled biceps, which is what most people want for abs.

its not just about ab training. you can do abs til youre blue in the face (weighted or not) but you wont see the results until you cut the fat with diet and cardio

your abs are already there. you said you are slim and still not able to see the cuts? do weighted ab exercices or either that you might have to much water in between your muscle and skin. skinny does not mean you should look cut. you have to build the muscle and get rid of that fat and stubborn water weight.

I never do sit ups, and my abs are ok, I used to be fat so I watched what I ate, and got muscled up as crap, and it was awesome. But basiclly, I just did a lot of cardio and watched what I ate, never sit ups.
Will sit ups help a lot ? Because I want more than 6 abs, this sucks. I want like an awesome 10 pack, or something sweet. Thanks. |

I think everyone is right. Try to incorporate both styles from week to week. Your abs are just like any other muscle, they can overtrained, they need resistance and they need change. I usually go for weighted for a week or two and then go the weightless high rep intense workouts the next. find what works for YOUR BODY. Some people don't do abs, that doesn't make it a standard.
Skinny or not, you bodyfat needs to be down along with water retention.

i think that you should do all of these, weighted once a week, the rest of the time do fast twitch exercises, along with cardio. to burn 1 lb of fat you have to burn 3500 calories. if you burn 500 every day you will lose a pound of fat a week. also on your diet cut out as much saturated fats as posible, eat your complex carbs, and eat protein like it's going out of style.

I lost 36 pounds once when I was sick of not being able to see my abs after years of lifting and never seeing my abs...plus I was getting older and thought if I didn't do something I'd never see 'em! After I lost the weight, I still couldn't see the defination because the loose skin that was there. About a month or 2 later they were awesome! But diet is the most important no matter how you work abs. I am 6'2" and weighed 236, and after my diet down to 200 my abs were incredible. The diet I had to stay on is very strict though and now after 5 years they are less defined but still there.
