id say peanut butter is an essential body building food. its a good way to make sure your getting enough good fats, as long as you do go overboard with it. personally, i use it in shakes... tastes delicious!

I just discovered the "natural" peanut butter. I never realized about the partially hydrogenated oil in Peter Pan peanut butter, so I just make the switch. But like meat12, I have it with sugar-free preserves. I use sugar-free whole wheat bread by nature's own. Good stuff.

the smuckers brand is fine. the difference you could look for is whether there is salt added.

the main issue of "natural" versus like skippy is the use of hydrogenated oils - which is used in skippy to keep the PB from seperating (like in the natural stuff).

whole foods is a tree hugger grocery store organic and expensive

Thanks Sana...I just wish stores like Costco or BJ's sold it in bulk because I can only get the small container.

LOl

Those stores also sell some kick ass breads. Double fiber, soy enhanced etc etc. Kinda $$$$

I use bread from Wal-Mart 2 bucks a loaf but it has double the whole grain fibers.

Wal-Mart also sells the smuckers Natural, at least the one here in Panama City does. I never liked it until now as I am becoming more aware of "clean" food vs. food in general and, well Peter Pan honey roasted isn't Clean

Costco does carry natural peanut butter - a bit more expensive than the standard stuff but nothing outrageous.

it depends on your luck. like everything else at costco, things come and things go. they had natty pb at the 2 costcos by us for about 2 months. then i guess it sold out b/c now we don't have anything but skippy again.

they had almond butter for a while too - haven't had that in about 5 months

i tracked down the brand they were carrying at costco (where btw, we got 2 16oz jars for like $6) at a health food store. they were charging $16 for ONE 16oz jar

i just get the cheap brand at the grocery store now

btw, i WOULD go to whole foods if we had one here. my tree hugger comment is a sign of my resentment that i can't find one close

What brand do you get at the grocery store Sana? My Costco doesn't seem to carry it either. My girlfirend has a membership to BJ's so I am going to look for some there.

you can buy natural peanut butter for about 1.49 Canadian per pound. so it's about a buck (USD) a pound for natural peanut butter. you can get 10 kilograms of it for about 25 bucks. this ain't expensive when compared to other items most bb buy.

i eat my natural peanut butter either plain or with added flax meal and/ or protein powder. it's great stuff!
