A list of slow absorbtion proteins before bed....

Anyone feel like making one up or know where to find one.

What are some good slow absorbing proteins to consume before bed. I know Casein Protein Powder would be 1, but what are some other cheap whole foods that can be taken in here?

PB is definetely slow absorbing because of the amount of fat in it. It isn't the worst nighttime snack (depending on your goals) cause it is a decent source of protein and absorbs slowly because of the fat.

Ahhh, so little miss muffit was actually eating casein and whey. So you could drain out the whey and just eat the casein, or just eat it all together. Not bad.

If I am reading this right...

"The whey is drained off and the curd is cooled so that its grains are prevented from 'matting', i.e., fusing with each other. The microstructure of Cottage cheese, as seen by SEM at left, is still porous - consisting of distinct casein micelle clusters."

I believe that the whey is drained off in the process and never makes it to your grocery.

True, but some of the whey still remains depending on what method they use. Either or, looks like it's mostly casein anyway. Guess it's peaches and cottage cheese for bedtime for me.

Cottage cheese is a cheese curd product with a mild flavor. It is drained, but not pressed so some whey remains. The curd is usually washed to remove acidity giving sweet curd cheese.

I always do plain cottage cheese--what else do you guys do to mix it up a little. I've heard of things like cinnamon, splenda-just looking for some ideas!

Fresh Strawberries
Fresh Blueberries
Fresh Pineapple
Fresh Peaches
Raisins

I like just about any fruit but if I go with plain cottage cheese I use a tiny shake of salt and a good shake of pepper.

Add a handful of blueberries to cottage cheese. That's my last meal before bedtime. Sweetens it enough and the antioxidants are a bonus.
