Eating before bed?
Just a question about my diet. I have a habit of eting a lot before I go to bed. I have heard that all the bad stuff stays in your body if you dont let it digest while your awake? I am trying to bulk is it bad for me?
And also I drink protien before I go to bed to, is that just wasting it? |

I drink a protein shake just before bed myself
my understanding is that by drinking protein just before bed is good for you....your body relaxes and the protein is able to travel throughout your body...idk the scientific terminology to use, but protein before bed should be good eating "a lot" before bed of potentially "bad stuff" is not good for you...you don't wanna eat two greasy pizza's and french fries before bed.....when you sleep and your body relaxes i think its inevitable everything slows, including your metabolism, so that "bad stuff" has 8 hours to just sit in your body |

Anytime, even during bulking, you don't want to eat a ton before bed because the goal of eating before bed is to just try to feed your body through the night. Obviously during the night your body needs very little energy, so you really don't want a lot of carbs, especially simple carbs. You definitely want to get some slow-absorbing protein, preferably casein protein, either in the form of a protein shake or cottage cheese. A little fat is OK as well to help slow the digestion process-a little natty PB is good.
Basically, you should be eating right before bed to minimize any catabolic processes during the fasting period but make sure it's the right foods. If it's the wrong kind you'll put on the wrong kind of mass--fat.

I do like 30 grams of casein a half hour before bed, works well, no fat gain and keeps me fed pretty well. =]
