Quick dextrose question

I am making my own weight gainer shakes now and from a post by the bouncer he said he was adding dextrose 50-75gr. I was just trying to find out how much that actually was(1/4cup...1/2 cup?)

also I have read that you should have a high carb protien shake pre workout...(a smaller version of the post workout shake). Does this still hold true if you are using dextrose?? Might be a stupid question...I assume it would be OK

I use about 6-7 TBSP of dextrose in my post workout shakes. as for pre workout, you can give it a try but i have never liked to have alot of carbs before my workout, it seems to make me crash about 30 min after i eat. i will have a small meal like a banana and a scoop of protein but nothing more.

Thanks for the info. Ill keep it in mind. What I have been doing for the past week was making a huge shake consisting of 2cups rolled oats(ground), water, 4 scoops of isolate(112g of protien), 1/2cup dextrose, 2 tablespoons of raw honey and 10g of glutimine. Makes about 5 cups. I drink 1.5 cups about 45min prior to workout and the remainder after i drop the last weight. I havent found that it slowed me down yet...but maybe its all the sugar??? Any Ideas how to tweak this pre-post workout shake or does it look OK?

way too much dextros there, too much protein too. Depending on where or what you read, your body can only take up 30-50g of protein ever couple/three hours. I'd loose the PRE shake and do something smaller as bouncer stated above. I work out at 5:00 AM and don't have a lot of lollygagging arund time so I ony have a 1/2 cup of coffee for a morning jolt and something to was down vitamins and *such* with, and a cup of Motts, generic or whichever brand Natural applesauce. when I say cup I am meaning one of those individual sized containers. Those two things and some godsmacked blasting on the mp3 are enough to fuel a workout. post all I do is 50g of dextros/maltodextrin mix and 2 scoops of protein w/water, then an hour or so later usually when I get to work though, I'll eat a meal.

Personally I can't stand dextrose. It's way too sweet for me. I'd just stick with the oats and honey, maybe a banana.

ok. Ill cut back the dextrose to 1/4cup? and the protien to 86g?(there is about 2hr15min between my pre/post shakes) Do you think there is no place for a pre workout shake if you have the time? No benifit?

that works out to roughly 21g pre workout and 65 post workout. What would be a more realistic split?

About 40-50g for your shake is normal. You also need to eat post workout which is going to give you protein. Dont get it all from a shake.

wouldnt it be wise to get your protien from a whey isolate directley following a workout so your body doesnt have to worry about taking the time to digest a whole food?

I still eat my next carp/protien meal(whole food) about 2 hrs after my post workout shake

Bump this up to an hour after you work out (possibly 30-45 minutes after your shake depending on when you get your shake down) and you'll be much better off.

This is what TripleX was referring to. So, yes, drink your shake immediately following your workout and then eat your next high carb/protein meal within the hour...

I usually go with 1 scoop of creatine(1/2 serving of muscle tech)plus 2 scoops of designer whey(36g)before my workout. After my workout i go with the same and then another small meal about an hour later(clean)with moderate carbs and high protein(50g).Why not go with creatine if you are bulking?(i use it year round).

I am not sure I really need the extra help. I am getting excellent results right now. Test/deca/dbol. I dont know if I should bother with the creatine

gotcha, thanks. I will have to tone down the size of my post workout shake a little like everyone has been saying in order to get down that next meal so close.
