Quick way to eat your sweet potatoes.

Pure sweet potatoes, nothing added at all. Quick way to eat your sweet potatoes when you don't have much time or if you just want a change. A few of us from around my area have been doing this awhile and guys from out of town are always coming into the gym saying how good of an idea it is.

Gerber Sweet Potatoes.

They come in 2 packs. Each 2 pack is about a $1.00.

Each 2 pack has 140 Cals, 32g carbs, 2g fiber, 0g fat, 400mg potassium.

Just thought I would through this little tip out there since everyone seems so surprised when they hear about it.

Something else I like to do is mix 2 scoops of protein into sweet potato baby food. Taste like pudding.

Probably. His diet is really clean. He has a drive and discipline that mirrors what a bb'er would go through. Plus he almost looks like one.

BTW - Beechnut makes a killer oatmeal and banana mix as well as an oatmeal, raisin and granola mix that's pretty damn good too (sugars are a little high but they're all from fruit so it's not that big of an issue IMO)...

...or you could you could throw some sweet taters in the microwave, put them in containers and take them with you. I used to do that all the time in the army and for camping and now I do it for health/fitness. I love eating cold baked potatoes or sweet potatoes.

I just thought it was funny cuz you said a ''quick ay to eat your sweet potatoes'' like taking pre-cooked taters was difficult, lol. I tried the gerber packs and they are convenient but after drinking shakes all the time I don't need anymore liquid meals or snacks.

tracylyn is on a distinguished road
Two packs = a small potato (6oz?) and the one pack is 3.5 oz. I am guessing with the added water one pack is about 2.5oz. of actual potato.

I only get 4oz 2xdaily and 2oz the next, so I don't want to short change myself.

I could be wrong but I think those would have a higher G.I. than regular sweet potatoes since they've been blended/liquefied or whatever.

For the average person, who cares...But for those who compete, I could see this being an issue.

I just nuke'em, then split them in half and top with Butter Buds and Diabetisweet brown sugar substitute (malitol). If you can get it, ginger juice or crushed ginger paste pairs AMAZINGLY well with sweet potato. Sushi ginger ain't bad either.

I get kind of tired of drinking my food after all the PWO shakes, so I'll pass on the Gerber's.

For more ambitious cooks, scoop out the insides of nuked sweet potatoes, toss in the blender or food processor with eggs or egg substitute, between 1 and 2 large eggs or the equivalent for every cup of potato, plus cinnamon and Splenda to your taste. Add a few scoops of whey protein powder (vanilla works best) until the texture is almost thick enough to stand a spoon up in. Pour in a pie plate and bake in the oven till just done in the center. Very tasty stuff.

Sometimes I also throw in cottage cheese or nonfat cream cheese to make a creamier sweet potato protein pie. Anything is fair game as long as you keep the egg ratio around one or two per cup of other stuff.

My non-working-out, junk-eating boyfriend devours my protein pies and protein cheesecakes quicker than I do, so I have to bake double. They do come out tasting good enough that someone who can eat normal desserts will still gobble them without figuring out they're healthy for a bodybuilder. I also take them to social functions where everyone else is bringing unhealthy crap that I can't eat, and they disappear there too whether or not I tell anyone they're sugar free, low fat and protein packed.

A crust is optional, but if I feel like making one, I toss in a dry food processor some walnuts or almonds, soy flour or wheat protein isolate, protein powder and Splenda or Diabetisweet malitol brown sugar substitute. When that's all whirled into a rough crunchy powder, I dump it in the bottom of the pie plate, shake evenly, and sprinkle just enough water or milk over it to moisten, then dump the wet pie ingredients more or less evenly over that.
