Soda, does it destroy protein/nutrients?
For years people have been talking about how the carbonation in soda destroys protein/nutrients that you eat. This is not about other ingredients in soda, sugar or any of that. This is simply about carbonation and its effects on nutrients. Anyone have any studies or articles? Thanks

I've read somewhere that carbonation speeds up the digestion process and that the protein you eat can be digested too quickly for your body to absorb it. I doubt that though.

Any thing backed by science though? Those articles seem to be more opinion and what they think, the second link especially. I guess I am looking for studies.

There is definitely evidence that carbonated drink interfere with calcium absorption in the body. See reference 6 in the link below.

sorry to be tardy to the party.
I do know for a fact that Carbonation drastically increases the movement of foods/drinks in your stomach to your intestines. It is one of the topics covered in bartending as well as in my class to receive my liquor license. Carbonation will move the items in your stomach very quickly to your intestines. Its one of the key watchers when serving alcohol to people. Which is why you try and serve greasy foods to them to counter act the fast movement of carbonation. As you know greasy food takes far longer for your stomach to pass on, which keeps you sober longer. So, what that can mean is: If the chemical in question is designed to MOSTLY be absorbed through your stomach and not your intestines then it will be short changed on you. |
