Shakes vs Solid meals
i always wondered why people say that solid meals are better than shakes since the food has to break down in your gut to be digested anyway? I try to eat 4- 5 solid meals and 2-3 shakes but sometimes i just dont have time to eat and a shake is alot quicker. Could there really be a problem with replacing more solid meals with shakes, considering you are adding other things besides powder, tuna, peanut butter, oats etc...?

i think what you are doing is fine, a balance is fine. i think they are both beneficial.

ya i would rather add more shakes just for time tho. Just trying to understand where the "solid meals are better" theory comes from.

well i mean the body is designed to eat solid foods. shakes have there place but I would never have my diet dominated by mostly shakes.

I have noticed shakes bloat me and don't fill me up, they leave me hungry and digest WAY TOO FAST....
I'll stick to whole foods

i have always noticed in my OWN experience that when I eat healthy whole foods for extended periods of time I look my best...but I add in shakes when I can afford them for extra calories and protein but I don't go nuts on supps because I question how the body reacts to them...but if some protein is supplemented then all the better.

What is it you're calling bullsh*t on? I feel the exact same way and have made numerous posts about it before. I'm not talking about protein powder shakes either - I'm talking about whole food shakes. I know my body well enough to tell you that *my* blood sugar levels are affected way differently with shakes even if they're made of precisely the same ingredients as a whole food meal (typically chicken or tuna blended with oats or brown rice)....

...I honestly don't know what it is bro - I have tried to rationalize it in my head that *maybe* chewing your food versus obliterating it in a blender plays a role (I have da*n good table manners and chew my food 30 times blah blah blah but that still doesn't get oats or meats to the same fine consistency as blending it in a blender IMO). I can only *assume* that because the natural texture of the food after normal chewing is much less altered as when it's ground into fine bits in a blender that the body is able to break it down and absorb it faster???? I know for me I can have 8oz of chicken with a cup and a half of oats blended with water and I'm hungry within an hour and if I don't eat then my blood sugar seems to drop off (not to mention my blood sugar gets a boost after *drinking* that meal as well). I can then turn around and eat the exact same thing as a whole meal without any problems but I stay full for way longer (and this is true even if I haven't had a shake before)...... Of course maybe I'm just different but I know my body well enough in the sense that I can tell you what foods make me bloat, what foods make me bulk or lean out better (fish kills my muscle development in a cutting phase), what foods make my blood sugar go nuts (a sweet potatoe with the tiniest amount of honey you can imagine makes me break out in a sweat but neither food on its own makes me do that) - I could go on but that's a decent idea of what I mean by saying my body reacts to different foods differently even though they contain the amounts of protein or complex carbs etc....

So youre putting 4 meals worth of protein, plus carbs plus fat all at once...... why bother with so much all at once? No wonder you feel like shit.

I just have a hard time believing solid meals are really that much better.I was always told that , but i cant find a convincing argument. The reason solid meals fill you up longer is because your body is still burning energy trying to digest what you have just eaten. Your body doesnt have to work as hard to break it down with a shake. I cant see how a solid meal with the exact same ingredients can be superior to a shake which will break down faster and be absorbed faster.

lol...I'm sorry do you have training in this area? or something? and try to make a coherent post if you have such a vehement denial to something...its easy to deny...and why would being lactose intolerant have anything to do with what I wrote? I didn't say anything about a "negative" reaction...i was saying that in MY experience I look better when I eat whole foods.

lol, i don't feel like shit, for like 15 i am bloated and than i am fine for about an hour or so... i add in the fruit and protein for flavor, and the EVOO to slow the digestion down.... Like i said, i don't normally drink this, and only do once or twice a week for a change up.

you are forgetting the fact that our bodies are designed to break down foods. when you take that part away there is definitely a difference. i know exactly what fog is saying. i still use shakes in my meal plan but there is certainly a difference in the way i feel after a shake with oatmeal, PB, etc.. the stomach fills up and you feel slightly bloated but somehow not as satisfied or full compared to a whole food meal.
