I think this formula for men and one for women should be stickies in the nutrition forum. It's rediculous how many times we have to give a link to this thread. Besides, it's a good starting point or checkup for virtually everybody.

I have a very similiar post for the women floating around here somewhere (actually it might be more complex and detailed)...

YJ's post is confusing as it says this in the first paragraph...

To match the Harris-Benedict formula YJ shows us, this is what I have found consistantly as the formula for women

Solving for Female Basal Metabolic Rate BMR
Harris-Benedict Procedure

655 + (9.6 x weight) + (1.8 x height) - (4.7 x age)
