Lakers - Pistons Game 1 Fluke? or Fact

Well, I'm going to have to go with Fluke for this game. Plainly said, the Lakers were off except for Shaq and Kobe. Karl had 4 points, Gary had 3.... not gonna be this way every game. Shaq shot 81% while the rest of the team combined for 28%. The Pistons defense was astounding, as I expected, but their defensive could almost be shadowed by their offense tonight. Combined 46% from the floor, 50% from the 3-line. Billups is the key to their game b/c neither Payton nor Fisher can truly guard him like he needs to be guarded. The only time he'll see a worth defender is when Rip's out and Phil decides to send Kobe over. Overall, this was a great game to watch... much better to me than the Pistons-Pacers series. I could definitely go for some more scoring from the Lakers Hall of Famers though.

To go on top of that for all you Shaq haters the other day.... I would venture that 20 out of the 34 points were jump hooks and short shots, and he shot 75% from the free throw line.

Wow...I wouldn't of thought they would have made this a series. I guess I am going to have to watch it.

Maybe I was wrong about the Pistons, they seem to of figured out a way to handle the Lakers.

I'm sick of hearing excuses for the Lakers when the loose. They played bad so they lost, maybe Detriot's defense is the answer to the Lakers. Guess we will see

It was a great game to watch, quite a nail biting battle .

We'll have too see, as they kept on saying lakers dribbled way too much rather than passed the ball, now of course pistons were all over them defensively and had many steals, so it's really a matter of styles.

Guessing, pistons will let shag play that way whole series, their theory seems to be slow slow slow down game, let shaq score, kepp all other players board cause it's a slow game and cold shooters .

Talk about hustle on detroits part, wow, plus they blew alot of simple easy buckets, at least 15 pts. in blown lay-ups or slams .

Can't wait for Tuesday.

Well if they can keep their offense playing the way it did last night, the Lakers are finished. I think it was spurt though, and we'll see the normal Pistons back on Tuesday - tough D, no O.

The only team that can beat the Lakers is the Lakers....last night, except for Shaq, they were off. Even Kobe missed shots and made some bad decisions. They have had a game like this in every series...and it hasnt' mattered. When they show up, they can't be beaten.

What do you guys think of the new setup of the finals to 2-3-2 (2 LA, 3 Detriot, 2 LA)?

Also...I know it's kinda jumping the gun but after seeing the Pistons play like they did I got excited ...anyways do you think if the Lakers loose they will blame it on the new setup of the finals?
Because it seems whenever they loose there is always some sort of excuse.

I kinda think that was part of Detriot's game plan, to let Shaq do all the work and shut down everyone else. Even though Kobe still had a good game.

Well if you listened to Larry Brown's talks to the Pistons, that wasn't his game plan. He told them to have a hand in his face on every shot, including dunks. More or less, make him work for it. They couldn't quite stop him though. I like the new setup myself. Especially since most all series are going 6-7 anyway. The way it seems to play out, they're not going to win all the home games in that 3 game period. There always seems to at least one loss in the midst.

Nope I missed his interview, either way they still pulled off an unexpected win no matter how they did it. I pretty much wrote this off as over and wasn't even gonna bother to watch it. Now I'm intrested atleast.

It's only been one game though too early to judge anything

Not a fluke....as long as they play Shaq and Kobe one on one and contain the other guys they will win this series! Lakers will not lose game 2 though!
2 games in LA- they split 1 and 1
3 in Det.- 2 for Pistons 1 LA
2 in LA- they split
Pistons in 7

Kobe was pure hero tonight. Props to Malone too, for playing through some serious pain. And to Luke Walton, for stepping up as few rookies in the history of the Finals have.

Bump on Luke Walton... first rookie to record 8 or more assists in the Finals since Magic Johnson and that's a nice name to have mentioned alongside yours.
