A glimmer of hope for NHL hockey....

The league and the NHLPA have agreed on a cap structure. The players gave in quite a bit....so I'm assuming they're gonna push hard for the other issues to go their way, but I think things are workable now that the owners got what they wanted most.

I will have to admit, I was watching less and less of hockey as I had less time. By not really following anyone in the first place, it is going to be hard for me to pick back up and watch it. I'm sure there are going to struggle at least until the playoffs, if not until next year at best.

I think a big problem is that the general public just dosent care. I know I could care less if Hockey ever came back. I would rather watch golf.

If it was the NFL, there would be riots in the streets.

It will pick right back up where it left off in the strongest markets, but a lot of the weaker market teams will suffer for awhile. A few of the weakest clubs will surely fold.

Thats shame, I was hoping they'd realize what a waste of television time it was and just cancel it forever.

Damn American's.. LOL

I can't tell you how bad I miss watching hockey. IMO there is nothing as intense as the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

I am a fan of Hockey and Football, but the Superbowl is more of a media hype than anything. The game on the field is no different. But there is something about that Stanley Cup..........

Well everyone is going to be bias about there favorite sports. If you want to say the super bowl is just like any other game, the same would go for the Stanley Cups playoffs. Except in hockey you get at least 3 chances, where in the Super Bowl you have to call all the skills of your players at will for one day. There is no having a bad game.

The Stanley Cup is much harder to win physically. Playing a contact sport like hockey potentially every second night up to 28 times to win is a hell of a lot harder than playing 3 games (or four if you 're a wild card team) that happen with a week's rest between the first two (or three), and two weeks of rest before the Superbowl.

See, that's where the different points of views come in. Athletic talent is something you have and should be able to call apon at will. They get paid enough not to.

i agree with this entire statement 100%. watching hockey on tv makes me wanna pull my hair out. but, if you actually go to a hockey game, you'll find it fun and intense. but if it were the nfl, i'd be in the riots with a torch and a pitchfork

Well, and the other part of the equation is that hockey is becoming a sport some people actually CAN forget about. I mean, this is the 2nd time in very recent memory that they have canceled the season. One time, ok. But a second?? How can they expect people like myself to want to pick up and watch it again. I like hockey, but it's not my favorite sport to watch.

I agree...they've done a lot of damage to the game, and it will take many years to repair. How the hell did they not learn from what happened to baseball? If they really think that the NHL will bouce back from this second stoppage as quickly as it did the first, both sides are deluded. It will take something comparable to the McGwire vs. Sosa home run race to bring hockey back to it's highest popularity levels....like someone on pace to break Gretzky's points or goals records...and that just ain't gonna happen.

lot of haters for the greatest game on earth,......so i gotta stick up for my sport

although i love football, it is only considered popular in the states, where as hockey is worldwide...North America, Europe, Asia and even Australia has started to push the sport.
Hockey is a game for gladiators, involving wooden stickes, razor sharp blades, a rubber disc that can travel 100mph.
fights are common, and respected among players, staff and fans.........c'mon, who dosn't like to watch two heavyweights square off at center ice, because 1 guy took a cheap shot or ran the goalie of the opposing team.....this is the reapect factor, you will not find this in other sports to this degree.

in the palyoffs for football, it takes 1 game to win, therefore creating no real big rivalries, some bad luck/call and your team is done for.
in hockey, during the playoffs, you play the same team every 2 days until someone wins, creating great rivalries.

it takes 28 wins max. to win the stanley cup, these guys look like they are comin back from war with their black and blue eyes, stiches everywhere, casts on limbs.........you know they forgot the feelin of pain, and are playin with their hearts on there sleaves.

fastest game on earth

oh yeah, Jesus was a hockey player, God was his coach...........

You're drunk.

Before anyone gets carried away on this thread, I think that you'd have to have played both games to have your opinion carry much weight.

AHEM...I happen to have played both. And while it's a little like comparing apples to oranges, I give hockey the edge because of the speed. Hockey is a lot faster than it looks when you're just a spectator...you'd have to have played the game to fully appreciate that.

Well my man, you might find this hard to believe but I have played both also. Played foot ball in high school and gave hockey a shot for 2 years also. Hockey just dosent compare to football bro. I think a big difference here is the culture. In america bro, football is god of sports, we live for it, we love it. In canada, its hockey.

I have tried to like hockey, tried to watch it on TV, I just cant force myself to like it. I dont know what it is but I cant stand it. It seem alot of others here feel the same way so I know im not just making this shit up.

Bouncer...I can understand what you're saying. But if you only played hockey two years, you certainly didn't play it at a high level to where you can really appreciate the game. Many more of us in Canada have played hockey for a significant number of years, so that's why so many of us love it most likely.

Some sports you just have to have played to appreciate watching: I know I can't stand soccer...I detest it to say the least. Yet, most of the globe is crazy about the game. I never played soccer, so that probably factors in to why I can't appreciate it. I know that I didn't care for watching golf on TV until after I started to play the game...only then could I appreciate just how amazing some of the shots the pros hit really are.

I think that football is easier for someone who has never played to get into than hockey is. The production is much slicker, the size of the players is captivating, and the commentators/announcers do a much better job of breaking down the strategies being employed on the field than hockey announcers and commentators usually do.
