Indy 500 this weekend.
Me and sana have been watching the time trials over the last few weeks. These cars, the drivers, and the crew are simply amazing. Anyone else going to be watching the Indy 500 this weekend?

nascar originated in the south.
Indy Car originated from Europe. hillbillers watch nascar. sophisticated people like myself watch indy car/F1. ![]() |

Unfortunately, NASCAR isn't really a redneck sport anymore either. It is a parade led by pretty boy drivers and an organization that has forgotten its roots. It is all about corporate $'s.
On a side note, I wonder how the gas prices impact auto racing, if at all? I'm guessing it is mainly just more expensive for the fans to attend. |

Yep, they talked about that during the Daytona 500. Ticket sales are down, etc because of it. That and the fans aren't willing to drive as far anymore. |

So true. I liked it so much better when I was a kid. I've been going to the Daytona 500 every year since I was 10. When we first started going I could see the whole track. Now the entire backstretch is blocked out by Nextel signs, UPS signs, Coke signs, etc. Not to mention the pre race activities. It used to be some crazy redneck jumping over 50 cars while his car was on fire. Now its some second tier R&B singer performing in the Nextel-Coke-Publix-UPS-McDonalds-Kmart- Pre race show.

Indy cars and F1 cars are not the same. Indy cars go in circles just like Nascar.

I think he meant...they are the same. I think the same in only some aspects. For example, Indy has traction control while NASCAR does not. Although some NASCAR teams have been accused of using traction control.
I guess that is what is interesting in NASCAR is when low tech meets high tech. NASCAR teams have always cheated or attempted to cheat. Doing things like, in the old days, running extra fuel lines through the roll cage to get better gas mileage. Today's templates and rules make it more difficult, but gray areas are explored and pushed to gain advantages. Also, an interesting thing in NASCAR is the team work side of things. I realize INDY has pit crews and such, but they only change one lug and the car lifts itself on hydraulics while NASCAR has a jackman, two tire changers, & two tire carriers. Today's crewmen in NASCAR are usually former collegiate athletes who workout everyday of the week. They have to be athletes to pull of 13 second pit stops. So I agree that watching it on tv is boring, but being at a race, feeling the electricity in the air, & having a better understanding of what exactly is going on in the pits and what the teams are doing, makes it a bit more entertaining. If you went to a race, you may have the same feeling about NASCAR that you now do about hockey. I've had a lot of friends who were converted to fans after going to a race. |

In past posts I've heard you hate on Nascar because they drive in circles. Indy cars race the same tracks but it just seemed like you were lumping Indy cars and F1 in together. I probably misunderstood what you were saying though.
