LOL! WTF is oatmeal mush?! I like the bbq rule though--I used to abide by that-if I can't cook it on the grill, I ain't making it. That forced me to find a way to do pizza on the grill-that was damn good.

well, it was supposed to be oatmeal squares like you can buy in the store. i figured those are loaded with sugar and shit (literally) so i'd make my own all natural and healthy-like. so i found some recipes without butter (don't like butter) and added fresh fruit (diced apples). well, it looked good mixin' and bakin' and coolin'... but after eatin' it was just too bland. maybe i used too much flour or oats or some shit. maybe i should grill the fuckers - who knows.

:bbq:

Post the recipe, maybe we can give you some ideas to tweak it and enjoy them ourselves.

Low Fat Chewy Fruit & Oatmeal Bars:
  • 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • One 8-ounce container vanilla or plain low-fat yogurt
  • 2 egg whites, lightly beaten
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp. skim milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies
  • 3-1/2 cups Quaker® Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
  • 1 cup diced dried mixed fruit

Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, combine sugars, yogurt, egg whites, oil, milk, and vanilla; mix well. In medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon; mix well. Add to yogurt mixture; mix well. Stir in krispies, oats and fruit.

Spread dough onto bottom of ungreased 13x9-inch baking pan.

Bake 28 to 32 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool completely on wire rack. Cut into bars. Store tightly covered.

What's the sugar and carb content? Also I think it was something you did. Will all that in it, it's hard to believe they would be bland and dry.

The recipe sounds good--but definitely not recommended for a cutting diet! Lots of sugar and spice and everything nice!

One thing though, if you were using fresh apples, you might wanna change that over to dried. Using fresh fruit could possibly make the end product too mushy and wet.

it's more or less the recipe from the Quaker website mixed with the extra stuff like rice krispies and no salt.

i'm not positive, but i think i calculated under 20grams of sugar per serving which was my goal. i know those pre-packages store-bought squares have 20 grams per square. that's like five fucking teaspoons of sugar in every little square. i've been eating like one of those a day so i wanted to make my own. my diet is total shit right now, i know. my g/f keeps buying me all this sweet shit to be nice and making me cakes and shit, but it's killing me. maybe that's her goal. a slow death, who knows. this is why i only shop bulk for essentials. she does the weekly pickups. damn girl is gonna ruin me.

Did you use the correct pan size? Where did you place them in the oven, how close to the heat source? You def did something very wrong, with wet apples in there im surprised they werent all wet and falling apart. You sure you didnt bake them at 600 degrees? lol

ok, looking at the above directions - again... i added the krispies, oats and fruit at the same time with the flour, baking soda, and cinnamon. i'm not sure how adding those things last might change shit, but maybe that was it. i used the right size pan and correct heat and shit. maybe the extra krispies absorbed too much moisture? i might ask the little woman to give it a whirl without the krispies and see how hers come out. it's that or i'm making krispie-oat burgers out on the grill next. all i know is i'm getting pretty fucking sick of oatmeal lately. maybe i'll try some healthy oatmeal cookies if i can find a low sugar recipe.

I know this isn't the point, but when I get sick of oatmeal, I'll have some steel-cut oats or something like a 7-grain hot cereal. Still healthy and a change from the same ole thing.
