Oats in protien shake?

ive seen people recommend this several times. I just gota know

How in the hell do you people do it?!?!

Now i gave it a fair shot. Ive tried it about 3 times now. couple times in the blender once in a shaker cup. Everytime i end up with protien shake at the top, and half a cup of oatmeal to chew up and choke down at the bottom.

Am i missing some important step? or am i just gona have to get used to eating my protien shake?

Add a bananna. Or... 1-2 ice cubes. You an also keep moving the glass around as you are drinking it (this is what i do). Just put it in the glass, and swirl it around before you take each drink.

The final way to get it to mix well is to let it blend for a while longer, it will make the pieces smaller and prevent it from settling out as quickly.

Those are all the methods I have discovered since I have been using oats in my morning shakes.

I normally blend the oats before I add any powder or fluids. Once the oats are almost like a fine powder then I add the other stuff and it taste o.k. I had your problem at first though and I am curious to see other peoples responses...

thats wierd, i've never had that problem and i always add oats to my shake. i use the quaker oatmeal in the round tub but i use the one minute kind. the oats are just split, so there not whole. maybe thats your problem. i only add them though when i'm makin a shake up in the blender cause i add a banana, some fresh strawberries and a few tbsp's of olive oil.

but you have to let it blend awhile Severedties said. But i cant even taste 'em in mine. Oh, i also only add about to 1/3 cup. i dont put a full serving (1/2 cup) in.

Those are a lot higher GI--with those and all the fruit, I hope that's a pwo shake. Too much simple carbs otherwise.

Ya, you need to blend more, use less liquid too. thatll fix it.

also... since blended oats have the consistency and texture of coconut, adding artificial coconut flavoring to the shake will make it like a coconut shake. This works really well with chocolate, vanilla, and fruit flavored protein powders.

its delish.

I think he's talking about the one-minute traditional oats, which are simply old fashioned oats that have been chopped fine (same GI).

yeah, its a PWO. Curls4dgirls is right, its the same there just split, or cut in half.

Also, there was a thread on here where we were talking about how the minute brown rice is different then the brown rice that takes longer to cook. I looked, it exactly the same. the minute brown rice is precooked, thats why it basically just takes 5 minutes for some water to soak it up and become edible rice again. Same thing as cooking a bunch in advance then heating it up later. accept this taste fresh everytime.

I'm not too sure that you're going to want a couple of tablespoons of olive oil in a PWO shake...

two words- BABY FOOD!! lol... get some of the colloidal baby oatmeal (it's ground up into a very fine powder so it mixes extremely well). i also eat baby food when i'm dieting; it's the perfect "clean food" with no additives, sweeteners or sodium. i carry baby food jars of sweet potatoes with me at all times. very convenient; no cooking OR refrigeration required!

I used to and occassionally still use baby food as pwo carbs--easy to throw instant cereal into the shake. Its really easy to carry and prepare when you're travelling too!

i had a friend dieting for a show and the last week he was eating nothing but babyfood. Said its not as hard on your system and your body doesnt need to use as much energy breaking it down to digest it.

fuck that ... i dont really understand. put oats in a blender and blend till its mixed well.
you dont like oatmeal and thats the real problem (for you) right? plus its only as good as the ingredients maybe you shoudnt be using that nasty tasting whey.

7-15 oz milk or water
1-1/2 c Oats
1-2 tbspns peanut butter (if you like it)
2 scoops of protien powder (one that tastes good)
ice ?

BLEND

Once again, I wouldn't add a fat to a post workout shake since it tends to slow the absorbtion rate of the proteins (just my 2 cents though...)
