Need Advice!

Ok guys, here's my problem...

I've been dating this girl for around 2 and a half years. I still love her to death and definitely see myself with her for the rest of my life. The problem is last Valentine's Day I agreed to a pit bull puppy that I've been looking at to be my V-Day present from her. I've always wanted a dog and a pitbull non- the- less. I just turned twenty and have an incredibily busy schedule with work/full time student/and other factors of life that makes it very hard to spend quality hours with him. He stays at my girlfriend's house with her family outside in a kennel. Two months ago he injured his jaw and required $1200.00 surgery that I'm still making monthly payments on. I'm just so frustrated that her and her family expect me to be out there every waking hour that I have to be with this dog. Should I give the dog up? I hate seeing him in his kennel all the time, it's not only fair for me to have him in there it's definitely not fair for any dog to be like that! Please, please, please give me some suggestions! I haven't talked about this to anyone!

You know the answer, you just don't want to accept it, especially since the dog was a special gift from your girl.

Yes, your dog should have another home and by you giving him up, you'd be doing the right thing. A dog shouldn't be left alone outside all the time and although you want to have him, you just don't have the time now to care for him propperly. When life settles down in a few years the time may be right for you to own a dog, but now is not the time.

Those dogs are high maintenced dogs if you want to raise it properly. If you don't have the time I would consider giving it up.

Yeah, I think you all are right. What do I say to my girlfriend who got me the dog? She paid $100.00 and for me to just give it up like that would be like spitting in her face. I don't think she realizes that I need to give it up. She believes that if I received the dog then I need to take full responsibily no matter what. Any suggestions on how to bring this issue up to her without her getting mad at me?

i agree with Puddles on this one. Its hard to give something you love so much away but poor dog, thier like us. They require love and attention too, walking, playing, stuff like that. Maybe theres someone out there that will give it all the attention in the world.

Like Puddles says, maybe in the near future bro, when u have a place of your own u can have one.

I want to get my girlfriend a pug puppy but the thing is she has a kitten right now. Shes there for him all the time but when she works, its hard. We will wait till we get a place of our own.

Unfortunately I have to agree with her. YOU should take full responsibility for YOUR dog. You should have thought this through before getting a pet and please excuse me if I seem very miffed about this but I can't stand it when people get animals then decide it was the wrong thing to do. Your mistake and selfishness is now causing that dog to suffer in a kennel how many hours in a day? I guess what you need to do is tell her that you will repay her the money and that YOU will find this dog a GREAT home. Explain to her that you didn't think this through before hand and the right thing to do for the dogs sake is find it a home where it will be treated like a member of the family and not some peice of property that you will bring out of storage when you want ot play with it. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
