What supplements to take?
Okay, so I have been working out for about a year off and on and six months consistently. I have taken Whey Isolate and I am considering taking some Creatine. I first have questions on Creatine. Is it more potent if you mix it yourself or just more cost effective? In addition to that, what other supplements might I want to look into for strength building? Comment greatly appricitated.

I wouldnt mess with the prohormones as you have only been working out for a year 'off and on' and six months 'consistently'
I get the straight up creatine, for cost effectiveness and cuz I dont want to suck down all the sugar carbs in the drink mixes. Are you dieting, maintaining or bulking? You cannot expect to gain strength in a caloric deficit/diet phase. Are you workouts progressively more challengeing? are you pushing towards heavier lifts regularly? Other than creatine and a good multi-vit/mineral I'd get some glutamine for recovery and soreness. I take 15 g's of glutamine a day and keep soreness at bay pretty well... but I'm just a little girl of 145 lbs... so a bigger guy would need more. Lots of details regarding your workouts/diet/etc. will bring you better answers from the members of this board. |

GO with dextrose and creapure creatine. Mix it yoursel. I costs less and it works better. Pro-lab is a good brand. a godd multi is a must. I would read up on glutamin. I personally dont think it does much to supplement it if you are already getting plenty of protien. Get you diet in check and hit the gym hard for a while and research the hell out of ph's too find the best one for you, what to use for pct,if you want to stack them or if you even want to go to that level.

about the glutamine thing, do a search for glutamine on the board. yellowjacket posted a research done for it that proves that it is useless for males. i always hear that it is essential for bodybuilders, though. its pricey, but it might just be best to try it for yourself, if you notice increased recovery and less soreness, then if you got the money supplement with it.
about the PHs, i agree you should probably wait a while before using them, but they are worth researching and its best to know what your doing when the time comes to buy some, seeing as there are a lot of ripoffs out there that cost alot. be safe. |

I am a little iffy on the glutamine, so thanks for the advice I will research a little more. I read about the prohormones and didn't think I was ready enough yet either.
For RebelAngel: My goal is to get increase muscle size and strength and to have rather low bf. Last time I check I had around 17% bf. That was about a month ago. Right now my main workout sets consist of reps in the 6-8 range to try and gain strength with some sets with reps around 8-10. My diet is high in protein and I prob get around 2500 calories the majority of those coming from protein, then vegi's. then carbs. If that's totally screwed up please help...ha. Thanks again, Chris Edit: I was thinking of this Creatine to start off. Then maybe when I am more into it I can make it myself. Any comments. http://www.supplementdirect.com/?con...oduct_id=10820 Last edited by Chris : 02-20-04 at 10:05 PM. |

I pretty much have my mind made up on buying the pre-made stuff for the first few weeks...Then if I stay dedicated enough my reward will be saving my money. Thanks again guys, and I'll keep the thread YellowJacket started in my for the future.
