Hello, New here.
Whats up people, just found out about these boards, i am 18, a gym junkie myself, been working out for about 8 months now...
I have a question concerning being sore. i work out each body part once a week, do about 4-6 reps until failure, extremely heavy weight for me. i often become nauseated at the gym. i do not get sore anymore, and many people tell me i am not working out hard enough if i dont get sore, if i am only doing that body part once a week. the thing is, i honestly could not work any harder in the gym, i give it my all every time, but still dont get sore. i take creatine/glutamine every day, and also drink a gallon of water per day. i always thought that the reason i didnt get sore was because of the gluatmine and all the water flushing the acids out of my system, and that i WAS training hard enough...what do you guys thinK? should I be getting sore? |

just a quick note, Soreness has nothing to do with the quality of a workout. Soreness is a sign of heavy micro trauma or injury. that is why it usually happens to workout novices and when you start a new exercise in a program. you can't judge your workouts by it. it is better to keep an ACCURATE logbook of all your workouts to measure progress.

Again, if you do a search on this topic, there is a huge debate about it in one particular thread, read the viewpoints and make up your own mind......
Personally, when I get the sore feeling the next day i feel like the workout has been more productive. But on the other hand i don't think they have to feel sore for you to have had a good workout, the tiredness and tense feeling in the muscles is enough....

Are you sure your natural gains are tapped out? My gentle advice (and I won't take it personally if you tell me to stuff it) is to a) make sure you are eating right b) make sure you are lifting right and c) get enough rest i.e. don't overtrain. This site has many people who can help you with a) and b). Lay off the chemical assistance until you are sure you have gone as far as you can naturally (and I can't imagine how you could have reached that stage in 8 months). In my personal experience, I have always been natural but when I was younger, I didn't particularly research diet and routines sensibly. I gained strength and some size but when I look back, I feel that my twenties was a lost decade for me because I didn't achieve what I could have. Now, I am 38 and I finally feel that I am actually eating better and lifting more smartly. I have much improvement I can still make in both areas, which is why I lurk in the training and nutrition forums here and listen to others and learn. I feel that I have a long way to go before I exhaust my natural potential.
